I will admit that EVERYONE is entitled to their own opinion, so if thats your opinion then so be it. However, most of the people in that thread are coming off in the way that they are just going along with what other people have said so they won't get their karma lowered or they might be able to get someone to quote them with a "haha +K".
What is with all the hate on the X-games lately? I remember back in the day when the X-games used to be THE event that everyone would wait for, it was the most looked up to competition ever, in all sports classified as "Extreme". I remember reading quotes of pro skiers in old magazines stating that they would rather be apart of the X-games then the Olympics. The X-games has progressed our sport so much and most people don't even know it. My guess is that all of the people hating on the X-games are new to the sport and have only seen the most recent X-games. The reason that the most recent X-games don't seem to have the same effect as some of the earlier years of the X-games is because now instead of waiting a whole year to see the next big thing, you can see that "new trick" the night someone was learning it with edits. The X-games have brought more then a two handfuls of new tricks to the table, JF Cusson landing a switch 7, Not just bringing amplitude in half pipe to skiing to a new level, but bringing amplitude in the half pipe in snowboarding to a new level. Although the Slope style course may have been a little dangerous as you guys say, thats not the X-games committee's fault, they were not the ones who built it, Snow Park Technologies was in charge of designing it. To add to that fact, the X-games is an elite competition, it's supposed to be the best of the best. if you are good enough to make it there you should probably be able to take on any course that's in front of you. It's those who overcame it and continued with their run to the best of their ability that deserved the win. I mean when Tanner Hall broke his ankles on Chad's Gap did you think to your self "Oh thats dangerous they should have set it up better?" No, obviously it's meant for people who are good at skiing and can assume the risks. If you cant assume the risks and accept that you may just break your ankles on a jump, you my friend should not be hitting the jump. So what about the text voting, I am hugely not a fan of it but hey, they tried it one year, it didn't work. Everyone makes mistakes.
This hate on Simon Dumont really needs to stop. Are you guys seriously hating on him for being good at something? Everyone is SO quick to call him out on everything bad he does, but when it comes to something he's good at you guys call him out for that too? Give him a break. I bet you if you asked half of the people in that thread why they are hating on him for, they would reply "I don't know". Just because he could dominate the pipe scene because he focused on that aspect of skiing doesn't mean he sucks at skiing, he did win a fair amount of Big Air and Slope Style competitions when got his big break. He was really popular when he broke on to the ski scene and had his first appearances in ski movies. He was always that Young kid who was really good. How many people hate on Tanner Hall? Almost no one. Well in fact when he first started to compete pipe, he sucked at it. Everyone laughed at him and made fun of him, but he worked hard at it and came back and look at how far he made it in pipe skiing, but when was the last time he won a Slope Style or Big Air competition? This is my point, there are no skiers out there who can be/ are the best in all aspects of skiing. Yeah, Tom Wallisch is good at Rails and Jumps, but you put him beside the Simon in the pipe, or Tanner in the back country he is going to get destroyed. In response to Tinga's Hats about your comment "anyone else remember back when simon was going for the record and they made colby stop hitting the jump because he was getting close with simon in the warm up hits????????????". Well I will answer your question with another question. Do you remember when Jon Olsson switch Misty 9'd Chads Gap on the same day that Tanner Hall switch cork 9'd Chads Gap and broke his ankles and the footage was never released in a movie because they didn't want to take away from the drama of Tanner's crash? Now I am not trying to hate on Tanner at all by using him as an example, my point is yeah there was hate, but people got over it. This hate with Simon has seriously just been taken to extraordinary levels for no reason. Simon Dumont hate has gone on too long. We get it. You can move on.
As for the "Superpipe High Air" event. I think it's cool. This is no brand new event to skiing, as mentioned by a few people, the Super hit competition has been in WSI and other competitions. I don't believe there has been any serious injuries in the competition ever, but if they should have happened to anyone it would be Scott Hibbert, Mind you he is still here today. Yes it is possible to blow out your knees and get seriously hurt, But where in skiing is it not possible to do that? Even on Jon's perfectly sculpted features that were designed to be safe you can blow out your knee as shown by PK Hunder in the last JOSS. I have never seen anyone hate on the "King of Quarters" competition. Also the 6 people they choose to be in the High Air competition have rights. They have obviously picked the 6 people already and have discussed the competition with them. Even if they haven't picked the 6 people yet, they do have rights and they can refuse to participate in the event should they feel it be unsafe.
All in all, I am getting tired of the same old, same old. This may be a bit long but I encourage people to read it and reply. Arguments are welcome.
