so today my good friend who has been a boarder for a long time made a confession to me that made me smile. Ive known this kid for a long time, and ever since the 4th grade he has ragged on me for skiing because it was "so lame and boarding is so much cooler." of course ive gotten used to the hate, because in ohio, skiing is not all that big. over the years we have rode together, and weve each gotten more and more into our own sport, and i knew he loved boarding and everything about it.... Well after 8 years of riding with me, he came out and told me on the lift today that he wished he would have started skiing. He says everything about it seems so much better. the movies we have, the tricks we do, the little things like "crossed grabs", and "scissoring on rails", the possibilities two planks over one. And most of all the overall vibe of skiers. theres so much less hate, and competition, but rather comararderie and building off eachother.
its so refreshing to hear these things, especially from a diehard boarder who i thought had been against skiing all these years. any other similiar stories? or boarders out there who have had a similar realization?
