Reasoning for Price of middle Clothing

I've been getting allot of feedback about the high cost of my base layers.

1. The clothing is made on Canadian soil, so I am stuck with paying standard canadian wages (witch I believe is a positive- keeping jobs within canada to canadians) also this means that the manufacturing quality will be at a higher standard.

2. The fabric used for the clothing extremely high quality so the shirts will perform as odour absorbent base layer. also the fabric is from a canadian fabric company.

If I could sell my clothing for less i would, but I will never lower the quality of my products or lower the standards i set to save a couple bucks.

i think  the price is quite resonable for anything with a base layer material, i had never heard of your company before, but the stuff looks great, i've been looking for something with baselayer propertys that you don't look like a tool walking arond the bar at the hill

The average online base layer cost is about 50-60 dollars canadian.

you must have have a clown in your marketing department.

If you are going to market to an elite, older, better paid group of people like Patagonia or Ibis does, then you can absolutely change that much money and they DO. They have a $100 base layer top.

But you sir are marketing to a group of poor kids on NS. Yes some people parents do buy them stuff, but the majority of kids on here would not and do not have the funding.

The really key problem with your marketing is that you close are inherently hipster-esque. Hipsters love grimy, cheap, second hand clothes. They want to be original, so they go to thrift stores. Your product won't even sell in the market its style is geared towards.

I am sorry sir, but you need to seriously rethink your product and customer base.

my problem with it is that you buy an $80 arcteryx base layer or something, you know its going to be a quality product. since you guys are not quite proven yet I can't spend that much. but i see you can't really do anything about that yet. being a new company with no outsourcing must suck

and btw, you don't have to explain your reasoning. your shirts are too expensive and nobody on this website will buy them. when you buy a base layer from a company like arcteryx, you know that you're gonna get a quality product.

I'm sorry if this shoots down your life dream, but you aren't going to succeed. new companies which start such as FD, saga, or EC listen to what their market wants. Seriously, ask David about all the R&D which went into making FD suits. In the end, he has a product that people love and spend money on. You aren't listening to what people want, therefore you aren't going to sell anything.

i hope i'm wrong, but this is what it seems like so far

what you sell looks very good. At a price of 35 i owuld buy it ... your price isnt a NS price but rather a snobby mama's " lets go skiing and have some wellness" deluxe holiday price :D

go and produce in china ... at least people will buy you stuff then :D hf gl


PS: stuff like that is usualy concidered before u sell/ introduce / open a product/company

it would probably be smarter to make normal quality clothing that fits nice with cool designs (like jiberish), get  a bunch of kids hyped on your company, AND then present base layer expensive high quality stuff, while keeping your normal quality stuff.

people on here will only spend 60$ on a shirt if its a proven name, pros wear it, and its cool. i've never taken a business course or anything. im just saying from a customers POV i would never drop 60$ on a base layer from an unknown clothing company, when i can go to a local sports shop to buy a baselayer from underarmor for cheaper.

yeah jiberish is quality and actually worth your money, i know its not a baselayer but its dope and you dont look like a flamer wearing it unlike this middle shit or whatever. i mean 60 dollars for a tight tshirt with a pocket im sorry thats not worth it at all and do we really know if its waterproof like they are claiming? i would go with known name brand baselayer but just my opinion..

i like the idea, i like that its made green, w/ green materials. i dont have the money for something like that, i wish i did. you website is super legit, clean, and very organized. people need to realize that going green is not going to be cheap at first, eventually it will become cheaper. its thousands of kids buying under armour and stuff from dicks sporting goods that is making great pieces of clothing like this cost more and more.

i actually like the stuff too, more so the long sleeve cause its a legit base layer, however not too big on the colors. 60 bucks doesnt seem that bad for a base layer, burton or any other company will run you around the same and you know their shits made in china.

I thought it was a pretty good pitch and if it could get to my door for around 60 to 70 i would absolutely consider.

I respect what you are doing. You have an awesome product, with a unique mission. But our demographic just WILL NOT drop that kind of cash on a tee. Did you ask around at some local hills to see how shreders responded to the product/cost? I feel like a little bit of market reseach would have gone a long way w/ Middle Clothing.

I know base-layers often cost upward of 60 dollars, but me personally (20yr old pothead ski bum, your demographic)... I'd never drop that on a base-layer unless it was merino wool w/ a quarter zip and thumbholes. (or some kind of awesome synthetic from Arc'teryx or something) I went to your website to find what your product actually is made of, and all I found is what you keep telling NS, "it's organic, and canadian!" What exactly is all this money going to? As a consumer, I want facts as to what I'm buying. How is this more breathable? Did you move some seams around to make this more ergonomic? Why should I buy your product over another companies? Middle Clothing seems a little too artsy and vague to be taken seriously as a technical gear manufacturer.

I forgot to add that I honestly have no idea what your product is. What is it made of? How is it made? What your technologies? Do you have any reviews of your product?

You should either reconsider your product or realign your market.

This thread is brutal btw, sorry about that. Just some honest opinions.

if you were to create a market demand schedule for your product you would realize that not many consumers are willing to purchase your product at such a high price on NS. You have to realize that your not dealing with a monopoly here there are many other companies that are offering a similar prodct to yours. In order for you to be successful you have to offer a unique product which has a high demand such as tall hoodies and tees for cheap prices.

i just saw their banner come across the top.  curiously clicked it to find 60-70 for a base layer. whoa.  came back to NS searhbarred it and found this hah.  while i love the green aspect of things, i wont be able to afford that stuff now even if i wanted to wear it.  good luck tho.  this thread is full of sad.  some of you are ruthless.

The problem is most skiers on NS are kids that don't see a problem with wearing oversize cotton t-shirts to ski in, even when they get soaked and re-freeze on the lift (not to mention look like complete morons). You aren't going to sell tech layers to these idiot kids, they would rather save the money to spend on outerwear to try to compensate for their lack of skills.

yeah, your trying sell organic $60 baselayers to an incredibly cheap group of kids, and also , you have no riders to endorse your product, and like someone said before, most kids are fine with freezing their asses off with a $7 cotton tall t as long as they look thug. I think you should lower your prices and make way taller, less artsy stuff if you really want to sell it to this kind of crowd.

my god i hate people that say that you need these expensive layers actually while skiing. On cold days you wear a jacket, on cool days you wear a hoodie, and on warm days you wear a long sleeve tshirt or a tshit, and guess what... ITS FINE. We are not mountain climbers or people who spend months at a time outdoors. We are skiers who ski in the park and pow for a couple hours aday. Who the hell would want to spend $60 on a ugly as long sleeve t just bc its got some base layering to it? I know i wouldnt. Maybe if the thirts graphics were made of real gold i could understand. But to charge that much is rediculous. Im sorry. Im sure you have alot of sick ideas for a company, but for me and many others, these prices dont work for a part time dishwasher. Hell even if i was a ceo of a company i wouldnt pay that much for a tshirt.

in the nicest way possible, you are an idiot.  spend a day hiking or skinning out in the BC you cant just wear a jacket, hoodie, or a longsleeve.  You need to have base layers under your jacket.  If you sweat in cotton it will not keep you warm at all.  I guess if you don't/can't work for turns at all and ski lifts all day you could just wear a jacket, but there's a lot of people that don't just do that all day and require other gear.
