Brakes

Do you absolutly need brakes for skis i mean i have a pretty nice pair of faction 3.zero's comin my way and some rossi scratch bindings but dont want to fork out 55 bucks for brakes just wondering do i have to have them or is even that big of a deal.

if you lose the ski its just gana shoot off. so its upto you whether its worth the risk.

And as for a brake for 55 you're getting ripped off buddy

my brake broke on one of my skis once and when that ski came off it was a huge pain to ski down on one ski and find it.  get brakes

yes, you need brakes - a shop wont mount bindings without brakes. And, each brake should only cost you about $5, not $55.

lies, from what i've seen, brakes cost 30-50. 55 is not that far off.

yeah, but most legit shops will give you them for cheap if you're paying to mount them there. In fact, some wont charge you at all (at least for the first few) - I've broken my fair share of breaks, but never paid for a new one. If you just buy them off the internet they'll be more expensive.

well i just need to get breaks and my friend thats sponsored by alta is gonna mount em for free so 55 is a rip off

if a liftie sees you without brakes on your skis, they won't let you ride the lift.  Just think...a ski shooting down the hill, because you were too cheap to dish out some extra money for breaks, is essentially a missile shooting down the slopes.  If it doesn't first get lost in some pow or in the woods, it can hit someone, seriously injuring them (lawsuit time).

I work at a ski shop.

We won't install bindings without brakes.

YES. We sell 100-115mm brake for 29.99$ EACH. Yeah, they are not that cheap, and HELL no we would not give them for free, because they are not free when we buy them. We pay about 10-15$ COST for each brake and we sell a lot of them. So yeah, brakes are not free, but they come handy if your ski comes off.
