GoPro HD Questions

Ok so this has probably been asked and answered before. I searched and couldnt find what i was looking for. So if you find a thread that has one of these answers in it. Post it

Could you just hold the Cam without putting it on your helmet and use it for your everyday camcorder? Cause the quality is 100 times better than my cam right now and its super cheap

Which one would be best for doing this?

Also what format video does it record into and do you need firewire to import it?

Also can you take on and off the wide angle lense or do you have to buy 2 different cams, one wide and one standard?

Im pretty confused. Someone help

the camera has one standard lense on it, and it comes with all the cables for it. I'm pretty sure it comes with a fire wire and usb cable. theres a cult for this to. but ive heard nothing but great reviews for it, so im def getting one. as for hand held camera, its definately do-able, might be shaky if its not attached to anything, but you could def make it work

If you wanted a less wide angle, shoot 1080p30, its like 127 degrees and 720p is 170 degrees of view.

it comes with all the cables, tv and hdtv cords and a usb cable, you dont need to use firewire to upload but one downside for me anyways is that my fotty plays back really jumpy on the full hd setting, but it is fine after you "Publish" it to your computer. just sucks to edit (movie maker is prob the only reason its doing this) other than that you can for sure use it as a hand held but the wide angle makes everything look realyy far away so mount it on a pole or something so you can hold it closer. if u have any other questions pm me

that's cause the footage isn't rendered until you "publish" it.  you'd need a kick ass computer otherwise it'd be slow as balls to edit if it was constantly re-rendering your edit.

720p and 1080p are 16:9, wide screen, 960p is 4:3, normal screen.

get the helmet pro unless you don't want mounts. Mounts are key. You need to stabilize this bitch.
in my first weekend of testing I found that the 1080p setting is really too sensitive (sound and picture) for at least the helmet mount. the 960p setting is fine though. I'm really stoked on it. It's unreal how crisp the image is and how quickly and accurately it adjusts the lighting.

Also, in considering making this your only camera you need to consider that the GoPro has no zoom.

I have made a few modifications to my setup already:
first, I colored the case black with a permanent marker for a stealthy smokey look.
Then, I took the head strap, removed the top strap, and fastened the thing on the shoulder strap of my pack. so solid, and with the black case you can't even tell it's there.
Lastly, because there was a slight bit of play in my helmet mount, I layed down two cut strips of electrical tape to take up the bit of space.

I am so stoked on this camera. I put a couple vids on my facebook page, will get something up here sooner or later.

im thinking of making a little "carrier" for my GoPro to use like all other camcorders. great quality though. bouncing on a trampoline, it films so well i can go frame by frame without blur.

I don't like the original mounts with them all being at the base of the camera. It seems that they make the camera unneccesary tall and thus unstable.

Dutcktape is my mount. Ducktape on my backpack was my choice:

u guys think the helmet will be more stable though? I found that the backpack was more stable in horizontal view-unstability.

call me crazy or whatever, but i'm certain that when skiing you head will be the least shakey body part.
Your body will automatically try to absorb all shocks and keep your head still because if your head goes bobbing around with every little bump you will lose your balance and even your eyesight will be blurred.

so i'm convinced that from anatomical point of view the head is the most stable body part to place a camera on...

altough i've already withnessed that the GoPro HD will be awesome anywhere you place it !
