IPhone for $20. Can I use the appstore?

hey... a friend of mine is getting the newer iphone for christmas and hes selling his 3g to me for $20. fucking sweet deal times 753698. im not going to activate it on my at&t plan because i dont want to pay the extra money for a data plan. could i still use the app store on wifi, and use the ipod feature?

Appstore i'm not sure about but you will defiantly be able to use it as an ipod. Don't go on the appstore until you now that it is okay to do so because the phone may get locked and you will have to pay the data plan.

If it is first gen, you can use it for everything. Just unlock it with Pwnage tool, and you are set.

yeah you could use the ipod for sure, its built a built in function of the phone so theres nothing that can stop you. and for the app store, i cant really see a reason why you woulnt be able to use it. i mean the ipods use it without any plan, so....

If you Jailbreak and unlock it you can pretty much do everything a normal Iphone can. The Appstore runs over WIFI so you can still use it. You can't use 3G or Edge for internet. I love mine espically because there is wifi pretty much everywhere so no need for a data plan. I pay like 40 bucks a month on Tmobile. Make sure to Not update it if a new update comes out because there may not be a jailbreak for that software yet.

I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to use it. Our phones don't come locked in nz though so I don't have any experience of having to unlock them.
If you jailbreak it theres lots of other apps available anyway if you can't use itunes and app store
