You guys ever stop to think that maybe there is some benefit for the XGames skiing to appeal to a broader audience?

XGames is not here strictly to please the ns crowd, they are a business, and they know that the average tv viewer is going be interested a big height comp, much more so than a pretzelfest railjam.. More viewers = more advertising dollars = smart business decision. You don't like it, you don't have to watch it, but don't cry because the XGames is doing things to make money.

And PS, I would not write off people like Dorey, Rolland, Riddle, Jossi, Peter, and more, they can all challenge Simon for height in a pipe.

People on here sure do like bitching and complaining, whaaaaaaa what a bunch of babies.

K EVERYONE i have one idea that would be the ONLY way this event would be dope....BIGGEST AIR ON A DOUBLE in the pipe...i would actually watch that and it might be a little wild but some of the guys would throw down and at this point im pretty sure theres at least 6 guys who can do it, which would make the event work

I propose a Jon olsson jump course into a ridiculously huge jump, followed by a moguls course that drops into a half pipe with a rail garden at the bottom finishing off with a quarter pipe. Most legit event ever.

itd be at least a little cooler if it was best hit, not just highest air. that just seems dangerous and boring.
even better, it could be a rail jam

i gotta say though, the idea behind text voting isnt that bad, you know, letting the audience decide isnt that bad of an idea in theory. it definitely didnt work though so they should ditch it

damn- there are a few skier that can boost the shit out of the pipe- but simon really does go bigger- it does seem like a dumbed down event meant ftw for simon-

itd be sick if they did best trick out of the pipe- then it'd be set

I remember seeing a comp similar to that.  Think it had Jonny Moseley and Tanner Hall in it.  It was a head to head comp with moguls and mogul kickers, but they also had rails at certain places in the moguls and then a big step down at the end. 

As far as the pipe highest air goes, maybe they should light the guys on fire and have a moat on the deck filled with salt-water crocodiles and great white sharks.

A competition that goes all the way down a mountain would be sick.  It could start with big mountain stuff, a race, than skierx, than moguls, than a jump course, than a halfpipe, and a rail section.  Determine who the best skier in all disciplines is.

this is exactly why winter dew tour is better than winter xgames.  xgames is run by espn--a purely profit-seeking media organization, whereas dew tour is run by alli, whose main goal is the advancement of action sports: "The mission of Alli is straightforward: To facilitate the momentous growth of action sports, through competition and lifestyle for a new generation of fans and athletes."  That's straight from their mission statement.  Xgames' goal isn't aiding the progression of skiing--it's marketing the sport to the general public.  What I'm getting at is-yeah...a halfpipe big air competition is probably the lamest possible freeskiing competition, but at least more people will know what freeskiing IS...leading to less general gape-age.  in this sense, xgames is sort of a necessary evil.

Well, that's a nice mission statement and all, but then Dew tour holds a pipe comp in the 17 foot breck pipe so that all the skiers who have been killing it in the Copper 22 foot pipe won't be able to do anything close to what they are really capable of doing. That's not exactly "facilitating growth"

At least XGames builds a pipe that let's the skiers show their potential, not to mention provides pipe and slopestyle events for the women skiers. That seems a little more along the lines of facilitating growth and competition than simply releasing a fancy mission statement.

You NS kids are a bunch of crying bitches. Instead of being pumped that skiing is getting more events and more TV time you HAVE to find something else to bitch about. Jesus Christ.

1. If the skiers truly felt this was a dangerous event, they wouldn't compete. Simple as that. Who gives a fuck whether a bunch of psudo-thug suburban white kids from Ohio think this event might be dangerous. If the pro's want to do it, be fucking happy that you can watch.

2. A rail jam? Really? Cool, ESPN would get 75 kids in tall tees watching. The other 5 million people who watch the x-games would be bored out of their fucking mind after 4 minutes. Wow, that Tom guy jumps around a lot on those rail.....and everyone else is trying to copy him.....and what's with their clothes......lets see how the NASCAR race is going.

3. Yes, ESPN is in it for the money. They profit off the sponsors. They're a business. But do you HONESTLY believe that Alli is in it "to advance action sports"? hahaha. They're in it for the money just as much as anyone else. They make a shit ton of money off Mt. Dew and the other sponsors. If they were't making all this money, the Dew tour would disappear.

4. Get off the Simon hate wagon. Take your lips off Tanner Hall and Wallisch's dicks. It's old and we're sick of hearing it. He's better than you will EVER be.

5. Like what I quoted, this event wasn't invented to let anyone win. It was created to bring in more fans and viewers. The average Joey would much rather watch someone go big on a jump or halfpipe, than to watch someone slide a rail.

6. Again, this is just a NS bitch fest. Waaaaaaa, more skiing on TV, Waaaaaa! I bet you would all bitch even more if they decided that skiing wasn't popular with the crowds, and just got rid of it at the X-games.

Why wouldn't you? Snowboarding is hugely popular and there's tons of money flowing through the industry. You don't see X-games adding snowboard pipe big air events. Snowboarding is thriving in the eyes of the general public, and I think this shows that skiing is not as interesting, and they're trying to find anything that keep the viewers watching, while still showcasing skiing as an event.
