Need new gear but parents wont pay for it?

need new gear but parents wont pay for it? i was in this situation and found a good trick to con my parents into getting me new stuff a few years back..

my brother was a good competeitive raoad cyclist and would always go 'training' so my parents would buy him stuff to help him train. they wouldnt buy me ski gear because they seem skiing as recreation. then after i noticed this everytime i would do something to do with skiing i would call in training and make it seem like a chour and something didnt want to do.

5 weeks later i got new skis...

you guys should try it out.

How old are you?

I mean, my parents helped me buy my gear until I graduated high school which usually meant I paid for half OR had to get super fucking good grades (grades for outerwear, help pay for boots, bindings, and skis... probably why my outerwear is like 6 years old now).

its hard to understand since the OP has the grammatical skills and sentence structure of a mentally challenged kindergartner, but hes actually not complaining. apparently he fooled his parents into thinking that skiing was equivalent to his brothers bike racing or whatever so that they would buy him stuff.

yeah, I think everyone is missing the point...

Let me try and translate for the OP - He's saying that his parents would buy his brother new bikes and stuff for road cycling because he was training. But, since they saw skiing as a recreational sport they wouldn't buy him new stuff. Then, he started acting as if when he went skiing he was training for something so they got him new skis.

He's trying to help people whose parents wont buy them new skis, but they are too young to get a job...

It's a pretty nice trick, but I don't think it will work for everyone, but it's cool that you got new skis though.

I have paid for all my gear since grade 10, pretty much since i started working, so yeah, 5 weeks of work works quite well vs 5 weeks of being a burden on your parents.

My parents always Mostly bought all of my gear for me. They liked to support me and my siblings in whatever we did, so if i skied they liked to support me and help me so they would buy me the gear i NEEDED. not whatever i wanted.

I will be buying my stuff for now on, but a good way to get stuff is ask for it for your birthday or christmas.

I prefer buying my own shit, because my parents arent rich, so I dont have to be a burden on them, and even if they DID buy me somehting, chances are they would have a budget and I would have my options limited. Buying it myself allows me to get exactly what I want.

Usually I will ask for some money towards new skis as a bday/christmas gift.  Although it then sucks because you have no presents to open on christmas then.

if you buy stuff on ns a new setup is pretty cheap, new skis+bindings for 300, and you can get clothes really cheap, actually if it wasnt for ns i probably would never have half of my ski gear, including pow skis and lots of bindings

I had to pay for all my own shit this year, besides my pass and pants. My pass is my christmas gift, so I have nothing to open on christmas, and my pants were a birthday gift. And by the way, i'm 15, and don't have a job, yet I have really nice gear.

My parents were how you "fooled" you parents to be, i was on the mogul team for like 3-4 years and did big air comps for fun, i was never very good ya know only doing 7s and shit and they would buy me new park skis if they broke and shit but as soon as i stopped doing the ski team ive been having to take care of my own shit and somehow ive been pulling it off without paying so far with warranty and such.

true story. i have bought ALL my skiing equipment.

bought my first pair of skis at 14 with my own money...

my parents would have literally laughed at me if i had ever asked for them to buy me skis.

my parents will help me out with skis and outerwear when i really need it. basically if my dad thinks im in need and cant go without it he will get it for me. but i end up buying lots of it myself cause i get a new pair of skis every season

i love how any time someone says something about their parents paying for something everyone on here flips shit and tries to act all hardass like they had to work so hard all their life to buy their own stuff.  people need to chill out and stop being so fucking bitchy.

get a job,. used stuff is always an option. you don't always need full tilts and the best skis. also talk to your ski shop last year i payed for all my shit and i talked to my ski shop owner. I've bought lots of stuff there before and he gave me a break it never hurts to ask.

i mowed my neighbors' lawns since i was 10 years old and all the ski gear i have ever owned has come from my own money as a result of work. people complain about always being broke but they just don't put in hard work to get the cash, they look for ways like this to get free stuff, and then when they can't rely on their parents anymore, they are fucked. don't waste your money on stupid shit, save up everything you can, and then splurge a little. it will be the happiest day of your life and you will appreciate it so much more and take care of it since it came from all of your own work.
