So what's the difference?

I want to know the difference between twin tips and normal downhill skis. I have a pair of these Elan Mag 6.

And I was wondering if I should buy a pair of twin tips because I want to start doing more park than I do now. I only do jumps right now. I want to know what the differences between these skis and twin tips are. Will I notice a big difference? Should I buy twin tips or not?

Get some twins! You will progress so much faster. You can ride switch, they tend to be lighter, and they have flex patterns and mounting point designed specifically for doing tricks and all sorts of nifty maneuvers. Not to mention, they always have better graphics, although you shouldn't base your ski selection off of that.

Twin tips have two tips...so you can ski backwards, switch, or fakie...whatever your favorite is..

Not a whole lot of specific differences every ski is different anyway (flex, sidecut, dimensions, whatnot)

You'll probly get hate for this, I may to, but just ski what's fun for you, and if you end up wanting to ski switch get a pair of twins then..

do yourself a favor and buy twins, they'll flex better and jumps will be much easier, you can also land switch or takeoff switch

First, Definitely buy twin tips get an all mountain twin specifically, usually 90-100 mm waist width big enough for some pow small enough to rip everything else.
Second, There is not an amazingly large difference between a normal ski and twins other than the waists are bigger, they are usually a bit stiffer IMO, and most people including myself run a much larger twin in length

If you are looking to change it up now, or next season whatever...I really would suggest the Rocky Mountain Underground Diam's...not just cuz they're my friends, but it's the ski I've been looking for for 6 or 7 years...flex and sidecut are just fuckin perfect...so fun.

I'd suggest everybody get a pair, they're pow skis kick some ass too.

Well, you can certainly 3 on normal tips.  BUt a twin will help, at least if its center mounted with the swing weight, you will feel more balanced.  As well as the larger mid sole will help tons with your landing.   That extra width goes a long way in stability.

absolutely, twins will generally be a little more durable in anticipation of rail riding, they also will allow you to come off the rail switch, the flex pattern in a twin tip will improve the skis feel on a rail. the center mounting will make it easier to balance.

get twins.

There is a difference, of course its hard to hit a box/rail switch or land off switch with normal tips.  But it is possible to land switch if you aren't going very fast off a box.  And the center mounting will help some, but i doubt you would notice a huge difference, maybe not a 500 dollar difference at least.  So yes twins make rails different for sure.  But rails are very possible on normals as well.

you'll regret it if you buy alpine skis. the pair i have you basically cant do anything park wise, at all.
twin tips are always the way to go, and you dont have to buy straight park twins, there are so many different constructions so you can ideally get the best of both worlds in one ski. look into line Blends.
