Ok ns'ers idk if this is the right website to ask this but i figured i would give it a shot. I dont have a mac but a lot of my friends have them and same with my dad bc he uses one for work. I was thinking about this today in media productions (we use final cut pro) and i was thinking if my teacher let me barrow the disk i could but in on a external hard drive and take it from mac to mac working on my projects. it's just and idea and i have no idea if it would work but i figured someone on here might know. + major KKKK for useful posts.

you can def do that. i know cus my freind does it. you might want to buy a large flashdrive instead though cus external hard drives are exspensive and can break easily

You pretty much need a large external hard drive if you want to install fcp. The Software suite is something like 50GB. Also, the software key only works on 2 computers at a time unless your school has a mass license. I installed my copy straight onto my Macbookpro, but now my hard drive is basically full, so I use a 1TB external as t he scratch disk for all of my footage. I don't know about installing it on a hard drive, but I think i've heard of that being done before. Hope that helps.

This works for me with Lightroom, I've never used Final Cut pro, but maybe it will work the same.
If you can get Final Cut Pro on your computer at home (get a code from someone, whatever), then you can create a "library" on an external harddrive of all your stuff on Final Cut Pro. Once you get home, plug in your external harddrive and you can open the library through your harddrive and it will open in your program at your house. But if you open the program without your harddrive plugged in and going through that library, you will have nothing on Final Cut Pro because it's all stored in your harddrive. Portable from school and home and it doesn't take up a shit ton of space on your computer.
I would say ask your teachers though first. Like I said, I do this for Lightroom. Who knows about Final Cut Pro.
Also.. you can get 'rugged' harddrives that are made to be portable and durable. Check them out.

for it to work without files going off line,
you need to put the project file
as well as the fcp documents(located in your documents folder) onto the disk, and then on to the other comp when you want to work on the project.
at least that works for me
hope that helped a little.

dont do this. flashdrive will be far too small and not as efficient. get an external that uses firewire with the highest speed available, especially if you are going to be working off of it. its gonna be more expensive but if youre serious about using FCP youre gonna want/need it

Wont work, it has to be installed on the system drive.
