American kids drinking habits

In Norway you can drink at 18, witch of course means that 12 year olds getting drunk isn´t unusual. Most kids drink pretty seriouse at parties from an age of 13-14-15 though.
This thread is not about me or my opinions on this, neither the crews.
I´m just curious, when do Americans start drinking since you, according to the law, have to be 21?

I'm from Canada, and i as well as most people I know start drinking around the 14-16 point.

but dude binge drinking at 12-14? i get that its different cultures but god damn thats young.

I had my first shot of vodka when i was in 7th grade. So i was prolly 13? By 15 i was a steady drinker, and 16 i was drinking pretty much every night during the summer and every single weekend during school. I think most people experience their first party environment during their freshman year of high school, and sophomore year really escalates it.

I started at like 15 or so. Got caught by my parents though and they really banhammered me for that so now I'm a good little boy :D

I drank a beer or something when i was like 14, but i didnt get like shit hammered til i was 15, then decided drinking sucked and then didnt get really drunk again til like a year later. And then i got in trouble for smoking, and i started drinking alot more at age 16, got real serious spring of jr year and that summer (17) and pretty solid since then (21 now).

Do they also make you call them whenever you change locations, not let you go on TP missions, take your phone for not telling them who you're texting and what you're saying, check your breath and eyes when you go home to get stuff you forgot to bring with you, and threaten to take away skiing when you get a B?

Ok well now I know. The only Americans I know are from Feerfax, DC, and they claimed that nobody drinks at 15-16. Guess they are just pussies.

i don't live in the US, i live in Alberta, Canada, where the drinking age is 18, and we would get fucked up at 12 or 13 as well. i personally got alcohol poisoning at the age of 13, which was fucking stupid.
looking back on it, it was kinda fucked up that we would all get wasted and high for the grade 7 dances, but it was also major fun.

that's pretty average starting to drink age for wisconsin (where i grew up)

statewide there no matter how old you are, if your parents are with you at a bar/restraunt you can drink as long as the server brings your parents the drink and they hand it to you.

it is up to the establishment though, but most places don't care as long as you don't get nuts.

it just came under media scruitiny when a guy at a county fair tried to buy his 4 and 2 year old kids beer to drink, but it hasn't been changed yet.

wisconsin is different from most places i've been as far as the lax attitude towards drinking and especially underage drinking.

12-14 is when most kids do it. also we make all drinking into games like beer pong flip cup so on and so forth.

started at 14 fresh out of 8th grade, drank 2 beers with my buddy and got a strong ass buzz. summer between junior and senior year of high school drank every night majority black outed. sophomore in college now 20 yrs old and get pretty drunk 3-4 times a week. only black out on special occasions now a days.

i smoked before i ever drank by the way

I drank so much I puked and passed out when I was 13, didn't drink for a while, then again drank myself so silly at 14 til I puked while I was passed out and woke up in a pool of my own vomit... haven't drank much since, in college now and I drink occasionally, but really not that much, guess I'm just ghey.

fucking wisconsin lost me a $20 bet. my friend went to visit his sister at UW and his parents let him drink, and i was suprised, and he said that its legal. now i thought that is was illegal to consume alcohol under the age of 21, which in most places it is, but he proved that you can drink under 21 but you cannot buy. god damn...


i think i tried drinking a little bit freshman year, so like 15, last year and this summer is when i started to drink more, not just like down some vodka from the parents liquor cabinet, but like go out and go on beer runs and play some pong in this place in the woods that we made (it sounds gayer than it is)

ive definitely slowed down (about to turn 22) started around 15-16.  but now i just like to drink good beers, or occasionally whiskey or wine, with good meals.  i probably go out and party hard 2-3 times a month.

I had sips from my relatives' beer growing up, but I didn't drink to get drunk til I was 17, maybe 18. And that was just at weddings. I didn't start drinking a lot til college.

Guess I'm just not as cool as all these NS'rs.

i live in montreal canada, the drinking age is 18. i say i started drinking pretty seriously at 14. pretty young but i guess it was alot better to learn by experience. On a side note, i alsways though that having the drinking age in the US at 21 to be a very bad idea. For one because there are tons of kids that wont drink until that are maturn and once they hit that age they go nuts and become alchys. Also when the drinking age is set to 18 then kids will more likely be exposed to alcohol at a younger age and be less likely to abuse it. And to add to all this i also went on a trip to europe recently where the drinking age was 16 and not only did the kids there know how to handle there alcohol but they were all very mature and respectful.

I think the main difference between europe and the US is Wine.

My parents drink wine every day when eating.. Kids get used to drink it kinda soon, maybe at 16 years old or so. And after that, it feels awful to eat a good piece of meat without a nice glass of spanish red wine.

This is definitely my opinion as well.

I'm actually worried about a friend right now. She turned 21 some months ago...never touched alcohol before that because it was illegal. Now, she's wanting to drink all the time. She got drunk for the first time at a staff dinner we had, and she acted like some silly 16 year old. Soooo annoying. But I'm wondering if she isn't going to know when to cut herself off or when enough is enough.

I'm from Canada, I started binge drinking when I was 13. Most American kids I met at Momentum couldn't handle liquor and just became annoying drunks. Just an observation.

This is exactly what im talking about. Alot of kids will go nuts once they hit 21 because there parents were very strick or they werent exposed to alcohol because the legal age is so high. I think its something that should be introduce at a younger age and alot slower then some of these crazy binge drinking americans are recieving it. Not saying this is the case for everyone, definetly not. But I think it would do some good to lower the drinking age.
