2 questions about LCC/BCC. +K for help

So me and some buddies will be out in Utah between Christmas and New Years.  We will be staying in Sandy, and hopefully hitting up Alta, Snowbird, Brighton and Solitude.  I have 2 questions in regards to the transit system, and also road closures.  Following are my two questions.

1) How easy are the busses to use to get to the resorts, and where do we pick them up at?  Is it worth it or should we just drive our own car up there. 

2) How often are the roads closed to get up the canyons?  It would suck to get all the way to Utah just to be stuck in Sandy doing nothing.

Any help would be much appreciated.  +K for any help.

the busses are very nice, they can pick you up at the base of the canyon and they come ever 10 minutes or so.  its about 3 dollars for one way i think though so i would think it would just be cheaper to drive, or hitch hike i do that a lot and it is very convenient most people will pick you up. 

and for road closures it does happen occasionally with big storms, but this can work in your favor.  if you think it is going to be closed, then drive up before 6:30 (not sure if that is exact time canyon is closed for bombing) and just bum in your car till mountain opens.  sometimes nothing will slide and waking up that early will be a waste but if it get closed and your up there its more than worth it.

please only go up if you have awd 4x4 or chains. dont be that joey who goes off the road cause they didnt want to wait 15 minutes for the bus. i cringe when i see somebody in a cavalier or something spinning rubber the whole way up.

but if you have a subie or a land cruiser with some snow tires. GIVE ER

Often times LCC (Alta, Bird) will be closed but BCC (Solitude, Brighton) will be open. There is usually at least one canyon open.

Check out rideuta.com for bus schedules.  usually on pow days its just worth driving yourself up there.  But yeah, make sure you watch out for closures or chains/ 4x4 warnings.

Ok, this is kind of relevant, I have a little front wheel drive saturn with snow specific tires, and traction control. It drives really really good in the snow, like way better than most 4x4. I have never slid out of control or gotten stuck in the snow. And I have cables/chains in my trunk at all times. When the sign is flashing 4x4 and Chains only, I always just drive up the canyon like I always do, and I do have chains in my trunk if I were to need them (which I havent yet even in like almost 2 feet of snow on the road). So is this wrong, or like against the law? I've just been thinking about this lately.

If a sign tells you 4x4 or chains and you dont comply, that is against the law. But on the other hand it seems like your car can handle it without. Just a matter of the law and if you care to risk it.

Imma be in Sandy round the same time staying over Christmas break myself. Where you planning on skiing?

I just got a full size 2wd rental cause SUV's were sold out about 7 months ago.

I'm gonna clear this up. It was for sure about 2 feet, but its not like I was the first one to drive on it, if ya know what I mean. Like there were some other tire tracks from cars in front of me. But I guess I'm just gonna do the same thing this year too. Whatever.

Im going to get called a dick for this but people who drive cars like yours are the reason i want to go on a killing spree... When they slide out and close the canyon again to dig them out it drives me bonkers... of course you stated that you always have chains so your higher up on the people that I dont hate...
