Do we need more mods?

As winter rolls in, so does our peak season, and more work for everyone here. Hopefully you will all be off the computers and out skiing more as well. With all that in mind do you feel you will need some extra moderation help in the coming months?

Want to start this discussion a little here, and if we do then we'll talk about who to add after

Thats the thing, we know you guys are all busy and doing this on your own time, we don't want this to be something that is a pain in the ass and a ton of work for you. We want to make sure the work load is well distributed

Again this is just to see if you feel you are "overworked" and want some help. Adding new people if needed is something we want to be proactive about and do before things get too crazy

Yeah I know that once it's winter and it's skiing time, I just don't have that much time at all, and I end up not coming on here quite so often, so I do think that would be a good idea. I don't know who would make a good mod though. I'll tell you one thing though, as long as it's exam period, I'm on here procrastinating 24/7.

I think two more mods would really help lessen the brunt of the workload. It gets hard during the winter as most of us disappear during the winter.

During the winter, I'm skiing every day and really only have time to check the forums briefly, read a news article, and watch a video or two. There is seriously too much content on newschoolers right now! It's crazy!

More mods, great idea.

Who would fill this role?

Key thing to note here is that the traffic is SOARING. Last year we peaked at 158,000 uniques per month - though that was caused by a McConkey post that went up on yahoo... so really natural traffic we were more like 140,000. We've now surged past 213,000 and its still climbing. My estimates have winter getting to the 250,000-300,000 range.

So there's no shame in admitting that the workload of moderating that has spiked.

In terms of the who? Man... no idea. Adam the iNS developer has access to this forum and hasn't abused it... he's pretty level headed and intelligent.

Rogge?

Nomensteven?

snwbrdmilf?

Intern? (Jim do you think any of them could handle the responsibility without abusing it?)

Contributors? (Any of the regulars you see posting articles)

Just suggestions... These days there's no doubt in my mind you guys are more in touch than I am.

Eh, I am sort of ambivalent about the nomensteven idea, I don't dislike him I'm just not that sold. Of course Rogge should be modded if he actually WANTS to be. Ashley probably would've been my first suggestion, she's on here a fair bit anyway.

I renew my argument that being harsh about enforcing the rules does a lot of the work for us and can cut down on the amount of actual hands-on that needs to be done by discouraging people from making that thread they're contemplating, artfully titled "this kid at my school is soooooo gay".

Nomen makes intelligent posts, but is he on enough?

Snowcase is on a lot and has been around a while... he doesnt really contribute much anymore though.

Landis? Crazy, but has character...

Alex Wren?

Enigma?

Skiminnesota would be a good mod, despite my personal dislike for him.

I'm down for being a mod, but I got promoted and feel like you guys won't get a whole lot out of me as my job responsibilities increase. Don't take my powers away though:) There have been a few times where no mods are on and I've stepped in to ban spammers.

My vote would be for Ashley. She lives on this site and will react with a level head when a 14 year old calls her a cunt. If you ask her to be a mod on xmas, she'd break out in tears of joy.

I like the idea of having Ashley become one (if she's down), as we don't really have any female mods and she's always on (Jen Merrihew might be worth looking into as well for the same reasons).

Not sure if Rogge would be into it, as he's pretty busy with Meatheads and runs the Ski The East as well.

I'm not sold on nomensteven either. Seems like a good kid, but he's been fairly critical of some of our policies in the past, so I'm not sure he would be the best fit.

Alex Wren would definitely be a good call though. And Chug keeps begging me to make him a mod, hahaha.

Calbert is a good call, always been level headed and seems to be around enough

I agree we do need a female moderator. Ashley would probably be the one on here most often, though sometimes I think she almost takes the site too seriously and I wonder if she'd be able to stay impartial since she is in pretty tight with a ton of people.

My other suggestion would be Jodi as she is on here 24/7 and reads pretty much everything, hell she lives on a barren rock with nothing else to do. Though shes not always the most level headed either

Anyone else. Lets try and have this decided by wednesday and we'll make a holiday announcement of it

Ok so I started a new thread for vote for your choices, everyone please drop by there and let us know.

like adam said he currently has the powers but not the colour, what do you think about giving him the green or just keep him undercover (as well as the 2 new above)
