Jimbo Morgan/XSI comment: bullshit

Jimbo Morgan truly deserves props. He was one of the first 'freeskiers,' dating back to the mid-'90s. He has been a passionate and energetic businessman, advocate and athlete for this sport - skiers like us are lucky to have him.

However, for Jimbo Morgan to say, "Know that you can go out and just punch it and you can rest assured you have insurance," is so WACK!

So when you go out there and you 'punch it' - you overshoot that 80-foot table to flat, and you're now paralyzed, and XSI sends you $6,000 to $12,000, you AIN'T gonna be resting assured!

That amount of money is tits compared to the fool you proved to be for feeling over-confident with regards to having accident insurance.

Jimbo, come on, homie, that is the wackest statement to make! Pick your words carefully, son! This community deserves better than that.

the concept is great but the amount of coverage is certainly whack. 300 bucks for a ambulance ride? that shit cost me a g for a 16 mile ride. and 16 miles is not nearly as far as most resorts are from hospitals.

What you guys don't realize is although XSI isn't the best thing ever. It is miles better than anything else that these skiers can get.


...When a certain skier went down last year, he would have been fucked if he wasn't still on his parents plan.

IMO it's certainly better than nothing. And what percentage of people get paralyzed? I would say you're more likely to break a bone or take an ambulance ride, which in that case this would be great.

So maybe you should actually think before you speak?

Sure, it's better than nothing, but if you break a bone and need a 20,000 dollar surgery, coupled with a 6000 dollar ambulance ride, is the 1500 bucks that this plan gives you actually going to be that "great"?

You would be much better off putting your money towards a health plan that actually covers your medical costs instead of a tiny portion of them....

Of course if you already have full coverage, and want to get this XSI policy on top of it, so that you get a little extra beer money for when you break yourself off, then go for it.

If you currently have nothing, then this XSI plan is NOT what you should be looking for, you should be looking for something that will cover actual costs of surgeries, etc. Then if you have extra cash left over, buy the XSI as a supplement, but realize that's all it should be treated as....

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that in the interview that they marketed the XSI plan as a supplemental plan and no where did they say that this is the only coverage a skier would need

dude, i'm just gonna go out there and punch it, rest assured that i got a few grand coming to me if i get seriously injured! or at least i got a couple hundred bucks coming to me if i need to take an ambulance ride that will cost me several thousand! LMAO, bitch!

Dude nobody in their right mind is going to send it solely because they have insurance..it does give some piece of mind though.

I know i'd never ski without travel insurance covering everything associated with skiing..

The article is fairly vague about it, and while it may not specifically say that this is the only coverage a skier would need, it's pretty obvious that many of the people reading it came away with that impression.

I wasn't addressing the article so much as the comments people are making about how this plan is "better than nothing" and "great for skiers" etc. It seems like a lot of the people making those comments are not 100% clear about the difference between actual coverage vs supplemental insurance.

I'm a big fan of Jimbo by the way, the guy is awesome and loves the sport and the athletes. However the interview didn't adequately explain exactly what supplemental insurance is all about, and many people might get the wrong impression and think that if they get XSI then they are "covered".

its a step in the right direction. why are people being against something that helps out the fellow rippers? if you had any idea how hard it is for someone to get health insurance who makes a "living" doing whats defined as an extreme sport, you wouldn't bash an eye of hate towards this. its a good thing.

I don't think anyone is "against" this insurance, there's nothing wrong with supplemental coverage.

However, the article seems to suggest that this would be a good option for someone who currently has no coverage, when they should really make it clear that THIS IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD ONLY BE CONSIDERED BY SKIERS WHO ALREADY HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE.

If a skier does not have currently any coverage, then this is NOT what they should be looking at, because they will be absolutely fucked if they get seriously injured and XSI is their only insurance policy.

Everyone keeps saying "c'mon guys, it's better than nothing". That implies that if you have nothing, then this is a good option for you. That is XTremely misleading, because if you have nothing, you need to be looking for actual health insurance, NOT supplemental coverage.

Again, Jimbo is awesome, and this XSI policy sounds fine as far as supplemental coverage goes, but if people start buying this without really understanding it, and without making sure that they have real health insurance first, then they could end up fucked beyond belief if they get seriously injured.

THIS IS NOT A HEALTH INSURANCE REPLACEMENT!!!!

People, you have to read and understand what an offer is before you start criticizing. XSI is a supplement to health insurance, offered to help hedge against the substantial costs of a serious injury. It allows you not to have to pay out the ass for a stand alone health plan with lower deductibles. Instead one can choose a plan with adequate coverage and higher deductibles, then supplement the plan with XSI and still pay less while also getting more affordable coverage should an accident occur.

I really doubt Jimbo devised a plan to trick kids into paying for subpar insurance in the hopes that UNRELATED XSI WOULD PROFIT. That makes NO SENSE.

XSI, like redbull, Chipotle, car insurance, .... you name it, is a product. Read what you get, for some it's a great deal. For others, perhaps not so much. You have the choice to buy as a consumer.

Maybe the ONLY mistake Jimbo made was assuming the majority could read and understand what was being offered. Baseless hate posts offer nothing, whereas a balanced analysis who this might best help would.

I have a supplemental plan in addition to Humana health care that is both cheaper, and more extensive than XSI, Do some research before you hop on the "extreme sports" insurance; I imagine the vast majority of you will not be turned down from other healthcare options because you ski. Don't jump on the bandwagon simply becuase their name is marketed to you.

It's intended as a supplement, thats why it's cheap.

Dylan is smart. He, like other price conscious shoppers, did his home work on how the two interact and what the best combination of plans and companies are. I hope those without adequate coverage do the same, because it looks like Obama's bill wont be insuring the nation after all.
