Rail stains - yes I searched

Okay the last post on rail stains I can find is in 2007. And here we are 3 years later. Has there been any advancements in technology, or widely agreed upon products that work? And products that work without damaging the fabric?

The only discussion in the past kind of had a bunch of suggestions, but no widely agreed upon solution that would remove stains without fuckin up the clothing more.

The best answer I could find was a lysol like cleaning agent for clothing, and "Nikwax Teck Wash" - and this stuff is made for outerwear.

I use Shout Spray and Wash to pretreat and them regular detergent and it works pretty well, but I don't know if it will ruin the waterproofing on your outerwear (I have Oakley pants and they are still just a waterproof after about 3 or 4 washes).

i would just run it its very hard to notice and i dont think it is worth the risk of hurting your gear

I forgot to say that I wash with cold water...

But, yeah, I wouldn't risk it unless necessary, my yellow pants were mostly red and brown when I got home one day cause it was kinda muddy and my parks rail are red so it was pretty necessary.

This might sound ridiculous but it works, cut a lemon in half and rub it on the stain. Put your jacket out in the sun until it dries, then stick it in the wash. It worked for both me and my bro, hope this helps.

this isn't crazy at all. i'll give my two cents as a person 1 year from finish my phd in inorganic/metal chemistry. most if not all rail stains are rust(or you sh*t your pants which iis a whole other problem) which are iron oxides. the best way to dissolve metals is using acids so the trick is finding an acid that won't tear up your clothes. depending on how bad your stain is, lemon juice, dilute acetic acid(vinegar) or products using oxalic acid should take stains right out. just use them first on a corner of your clothing to make sure it won't discolor the clothing and always start more dilute if using oxalic acid cleaners.
