Where your skis come from...

Does anybody else on here take the country of origin into consideration before buying skis? I.E. K2, line, some volkl and most recently i spotted a "made in china" sticker on the new dumonts. I am all for Europe, USA and canada, what about you?

alot of good companies have their stuff made in china. just because it says made in china doesnt  mean it has shitty quality.

Yah i dont disagree with you one bit on the quality, infact some people i have talked to at ski shops say k2's quality has gone up since they moved out of the us but im going by morals here.... its china

a lot of companies use china to make things because it is cheaper. Plus if the quality went down then people would stop buying their products. I ride k2 and volkl and im pretty sure they are both made in china. They are defiantly put together well

volkl's high end product is still made in germany. their low end product is made in spain i believe.

i won't buy K2 because it's made in china

I mean that's noble of you to do that. I'm all for American made stuff, but I think you're confusing the point. In other industries yes, it makes moral sense to buy things made in your own company, but in skiing, often the smaller companies outsource because they need to. (not that Salomon or K2/Line are "small", but certainly other companies like armada, and especially smaller apparel companies need to make their stuff elsewhere. So yes, you may not be supporting American labor, but you are supporting American's who care deeply about YOU the consumer. Just makes sure that in your attempt to find skis made by white christian people, you don't lose sight of the real purpose of buying things that are more expensive to make. Support the little guy. Most of the time, their stuff is better anyway, and if they can, they'll probably be made in America. But lets be real skiing, isn't exactly notorious for the use of sweatshop labor, employing droves of children to do simple monotonous tasks.

I agree, why hate on companies that are made in china, have you ever been to china? they are probably super nice and I here they got the sickest whore houses in the world. Those chicks will do anything for a couple american dollars

Agreed,  i sell sneakers and i love when people are like, "These are made by those chinese guys are they?"  I always respond with, "Yeah but next year they are moving the factory to Africa.  Can you imagine that?  Africans making shoes!?"  It always raises a few eyebrows.

Take an international business class, its not 1950 anymore, China makes some of the worlds best products.

Buying shit thats designed and manufactured in the USA helps our economy and gives your mothers and fathers a place to work.  Laying up skis would be a cool job to keep in the country if we could.

It's no coincidence that ever since that SE Asian/Indian accent started answering our customer service calls, the economy has been in a downward spiral.

Keep it in the family, buy products: Made in the USA.

for the record, the quality of K2 skis went up when production went from WA to China.
The quality of Line skis went way the fuck up.

The quality of volkl went down. (but volkl is fucking stupid)

In, reality the country of origin does not matter. The quality of the factory does.

Reno jibs are ill .......I mean jib spots in Reno and the skis.

 I love Moment they are a super cool, the company and the people behind it. Also one of the top selling ski companies for the Shop I work for Porters Tahoe.

    I don't know about On3p or  PMGear but there is no doubt that Moment makes quality skis. Everyone has to start somewhere and  making skis handmade is part of that. (Line included.... Albany NY, son)

  Although it gets to a certain point that your company my grow if its doing things right, and a small warehouse making handmade skis will just not cut it anymore. You can't tell me that if Moment, On3p, PMGear had the opportunity to sell  large quantities and manufacture 5 times as much product they would turn it down.

"Hey I'll give you a bunch a money for less work."     "No Thanks, I'm all good I don't like money, or growing my business"

just saying you can't be a hater on a growing business's

Surely there's more important shit to worry about than where your skis were made? If you want to take the moral highground, go to your local soup kitchen and help them out, it will do a lot more good than you not buying one pair of skis from a company because they have a factory in a foreign country.

My thrusters from a few years ago were made in Romania and my armadas this year are made in Europe too. I definitely did not buy these skis based on them. Where it's made does not matter.

Everything is pro-typed in the US or country of origin and the molds and pressed and everything are made here and then they are massed produced in Asia.... cheaper labor means cheaper skis....

Fatypus make all there skis in Colorado

And to the guy that thinks it is really racist to want skis made in America, you are a complete tool. I think you will find that the quality and customer service of ski companies that go the extra mile and make their skis in North America rather than outsourcing to China, shows a dedication to there customers.

LL2s (not sure, i understand surface has factories in both China and USA)

Atomic's made in Austria (Same with Armada's)

Rossi Scratch FS WRS's made in spain

Rossi World Cup GS skis made in France.

Dynastar GS ski made in France aswell.

i know WTF? they were Rossi's top park ski the year they were produced (a couple of years ago i forget how many)

its OK though, they have the silhouette of a chick on the bases, so street cred +100 haha
