i really really really want to get one as i cycle to uni every day, they must be so quick, probs is that there are so many hill to go up and down and that means my legs would be fucked!
haha ok to each his own. I've had both and risers with nice grips are definitely the best for urban riding. If you actually go forward on bullhorns your handling is shitty because you are over the front wheel (and you look super gay), plus there is never a reason to drop down and be aerodynamic in the city lol. Look at any of the pro (yeah I think it's dumb too) guys and they all have risers.
Wow a lot of fixie hate. But thanks for the props from those who gave it. As for the hipster scene, I've learned to accept it, I mean look what freeskiing has become. It went from a core movement to a tall tee - twin tip scene.
But hey, I love it. And I love my bike, and ya I want to show it off. The only reason I don't have new dalbellos this year is because my paychecks all went to this guy. As for hills, I live in SLC and go to the U so we have hills galore, but a 46 crank and an 8 tooth cog work really well for me; not to mention that riding this is great ski conditioning.
a couple of mine. both are doper now then they were, these were put up a while ago. Yea it sucks that track bikes are being rode by so many gapers, but they are SO MUCH FUN
well i race on the track as well. and im a bike courier and its fast as fuck and easy to get around. Really don't bash it until you try it. I became almost as obsessed with it as skiing
The epitome of hipster kitsch: Pay tons of money and put effort into an accessory that makes you look poorer than you are. IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY, JUST GET A ROAD BIKE. Stop treating your transportation like it's a fashion statement! Hipster fixies are the white equivalent of getting chrome rims and neon paint jobs for your car. It's fucking stupid.
I live in bozeman and the streets are always icey as fuck and its super flat. A fix gear gives you more control than braking. And you never have to worry about gears fucking up or fucking your bike up when your drunk.
I have a road bike, and a car, and a long board. This is a toy, not a mode of transportation. I ride it because it's fun, not because of it's scene. All you haters can go find yourselves a spoon and eat my ass.
So why did you say earlier in the thread that it was good for transportation around the city? Sounds like you're trying to cover up the fact the YOU'RE A FUCKING HIPSTER.
I really wish people would stop hating on peoples choice of fucking bike. What the fuck are you gaining from hating?
I LOVE MY FIXED GEAR BIKE.
I could care less if anyone makes fun of it/me for riding it. I have fun on it, and it was fun to build.
I have a normal road bike too, but it's currently in storage, because its a fucking bore to ride in the city.
I'm not gonna try to justify my love of it with claims of "better efficiency" and all that. It's more fun than anything else I can ride in the city or at school.
If you want to, yes, you can spend 1000 on a wheelset, and 400 on a seat, and 300 on a crankset, and on and on.
Or, you can do what i did, and spend around 400 bucks. My road bike was triple the cost of my fixed gear. One of my friends built a winter fixed gear for under 100 bucks.
I didn't even know what a fixie was. Man I must be mad uncool. Only bikes I own are a couple bmx and two motorcycles. I drive a car for transportation. I ride my bike if I wanna sesh the mini ramp in the garage.
