Hey NS, looking for some well-educated opinions here in regards to my new boots. This season I got fitted to a 26.5 Dalbello Krypton, after coming out of 27.5 SPKs in which my feet were sliding. They were pretty snug, but I was told and thought myself they would pack out. Well, after two full days of riding, they haven't seemed to budge much at all. The big toe on each of my feet was absolutely killing me by the end of each day. Separate from this issue is that the right boot seems to be cutting off circulation to my foot from being too tight on the top, even though I have the bottom and middle buckles as loose as they can go. Looking for input/solutions that might help me out here. Would custom footbeds help this at all? Thanks
Bump for you, I have the exact same problem. Might sound strange, but look to see if your right foot is any bigger than your left, I think most people have one larger foot and one longer arm, just by a little. And by any chance, are you right footed?
My right foot always seems like it's getting crushed, but not my left. And my right big toe got destroyed last season.
What kind of liner do you have in those boots? Did you get them heat molded? You're coming out of a super wide boot into a narrower boot (not too narrow, but not as wide as the SPK) so you're going to notice it being a lot tighter. If the toes are bugging you really bad, you can get the toe box blown out freeing up some space. A good boot fitter can do this for you. Also, if there is pressure on the top of your foot, try a footbed, that will also free up some space.
I had a pair of Tecnica's and they were bugging me with basically the same problem. I had Senecal Ski and Snow blow out the toes as well as open up the top with a crown royal bottle. They fit sooo much better after that.
The liners are just stock trufit liners, and they were not heat molded. Obviously, the SPKs were wayy too big, but the fit of these overall is really good. Just that my big toe gets smashed in the end. What does blowing out the toe box entail? It seems the shell fit is right on, so is that just a modification to the liner?
you could look into getting the boot punched. your local shop should be able to do it. the one i work for will do it for $10 a punch and it does wonders if the overall fit is good and there is just a few pressure points
Not molding your liners is part of the problem for sure, the other is not having a footbed. A footbed will replace the existing insole, shorten and narrow your foot because it won't allow your foot to collapse- both of which will free up room. Once you support your foot, then think about getting the toe of the shell punched. If you get the shell stretched without a footbed supporting your foot, your foot will just move into the stretch-work defeating the purpose of stretching it out in the first place.
So get a footbed and heat mold your liners (with a toe cap) for starters. Ski it and then think about punching out the big toe.
Thanks for the responses. So, next question is where can I get a custom footbed? I did some searching, but the surefoot places seem few and far between.
