Girls and double flips/corks

Ok first off I wanna start by saying that I'm not trying to be sexist in any way shape or form, I'm just curious to see what ns'ers have to say about female progression. Statistics say that on average girls are 10% weaker than males, so that can account for a small amount in lack of progression, but is that a valid excuse enough for the best female trick to be a switch 1080 (correct me if I'm wrong, but I think thats the best female trick)? Now I understand that there are few females in the sport which makes it hard for them to feed off each other and progress faster and a smaller talent pool to choose from (no hate) but since males have already paved the way for how to do certain tricks, shouldn't the current girls who have tons of potential, try to use male knowledge to try and step up their game a little more? And yes I know that female freeskiing has progressed a TON in the last few years but at the top female riders level, a male would have a tough time getting a grassroots sponsership. Sorry if I offended any sexist phobia people, I don't intend any hate, just curious to get both sides of the story (male, female)

I think girls suck, and I don't se any reason why they should be That much worse then men. I haven't seen a steezy trick from a girl over a 540 in like, ever. "No hate"

yeah its possible it didnt come up, but there was definitely discussion about girls potentially throwing doubles... lets just say a few males didnt take too kindly to the idea

If by saying this you mean that guys don't have fear, then you are drunk. Everyone has fear. Even top pros have fear. They just want to get better at skiing so they are able to manage that fear and use it to their advantage to improve. I don't see why girls can't do this just as much as guys. Although it seems to me like a lot of girls, certainly not all, but the majority, just don't take skiing as seriously as guys do in the sense of wanting to improve.

you have a point I guess, but I dunno, like for me I've always been about trying that next thing, I would never even consider not learning a new trick because nobody else can do it. I would want to learn the trick for the sole reason that no one can do it. Just to stand out and prove to my self that it is possible. I dunno thats just me, but it does seem that girls have more consern for their physical well being, which is good I guess

REALLY??? thats stupid, if I was pro I would be stoked to help a girl learn a double, the more people that can throw them the better, cause then guys would realize they gotta step it up haha, but seriously thats sad that guys would not like girls doing doubles

It will happen. There's already snowboard girls trying doubles in the pipe, and girls in traditional freestyle ski aerials are doing twisting triples.

It's progressing the female side of the sport. If female want the same respect from the ski community as male skiers then they need to start at least coming close to the level that professional male skiers are at. If doubles are going to earn that respect, then that's what they need to do.

im saying a few guys on the board were basically saying there was no chance a girl will ever land a double cork anytime soon

it had nothing to do with someone not being willing to help someone out or teach it

The only thing I am getting from your responses to this thread is that girls are lazy and don't give a shit
about the sport, the only thing they care about is keeping to the norm so there sponsors are happy and they can keep winning competitions.

I know a girl who realizes that girls skiing is embarrasing so she took it to herself to be more like the guys. Which has lead to her doing cork 9's and 10's and possibly double frontflips. It's just certain girls that need to step above to lead everyone, girls skiing hasn't really found that yet.

That's actually a great point I never thought about.  Not so much that they know they can go pro, but men seem to be extremely competitive in every little thing.  Women seem to be more content with where they are in relation to one another, at least when it comes to sports.

i think it might have to do with guys sense of competition and physical drive. guys seem to push our bodies harder than girls would and test more limits. its more in our nature to be physically competitive than it is for girls. ans since skiing is a really intense physical and mental sport, there difference is greater. in less physically and mentally demanding sports like tennis or golf, the difference is smaller. i dont have any hate on womens sports, its just how the situation seems to be in my opinion

Double corks are a lot easier said than done. Just because there are thirty guys in the world who can throw them does not mean that they are remotely easy. By your logic, now that I've seen PK throw a dub 12, since I'm a strong male skier I should be able to throw dub 12s as well. But in reality I would probably get very injured or dead in the process of learning double corks.

In terms of progression, NOBODY skis to "progress the sport". The idea that pros go out and huck new tricks so that skiing will be a better sport is ridiculous! I mean, I doubt any of us have ever thought, "hmmm... I've been sliding this flat rail all day with my friends, and now I should throw a switch frontflip to switch 50-50 so my buddies will be pushed to try crazy new tricks, and skiing will be progressed at my mountain." Nobody thinks like that, and if anything, people try to keep their best tricks exclusive.

If a sw 7 will win a run at a female slopestyle comp, there's no reason to try a sw cork 10, just like nobody would try a triple cork 18 at a male comp when a dub cork 10 will win. Forget about all the "progress the sport" stuff. Nobody outside of NS thinks about skiing just to progress the sport.

There are many reasons why but one reason I think is part of it is that there are so many less girls in park, or any action sport for that matter. While there still are quite a few girls that ski guys outnumber them quite a bit

Doubles? lawl girls can't even put a single cork in there tricks let alone 2.

However I could have sworn a girl did a dub 12 in the end of a windells edit this summer.

^Couldnt agree more. Im not saying that girls shouldnt push themselves to be the best they can, but no one seems to take into consideration that we are nowhere near as strong as most guys throwing doubles, and when girls get hurt the consequences seem to always be greater than if a guy had the same accident. I think the fact that our bodies cant take as much of a beating as guys, and we dont have testosterone pulsing through our veins probably has something to do with most girls being hesitant to try new things.
