Any tips on film in general?

Im going to the art institute of portland next year...sooo

this year i wanted to take on a project either webisodes(kind of overplayed this year)

or a short 30-40 movie that would hopefully turn out ok....Have all this go into a porfolio to help me get into the school(which is'nt that hard)

anyway any suggestions

Shoot a ton, and watch a lot of films (not ski films) for inspiration and ideas.

What do you want to do for a career?

just go on youtube and search short films. there are many amazing films out there... u no that movie"sThe Box"..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrKnhOJ-R80...the story line was stolen from this short film which is real good in my opinion. here is another my friend made..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_-uJ-DlTzI ... made it at interlocken but a great little film

Just throwin this out there, I'm a film major and 30-40 mins in a shit ton. Depending on what it is you want to shoot, and if you're shooting a short film with actors, etc, limit yourself to 15-20. Remember you have to edit all that shit too.

twas said before... but hes right... limit yoursellf to less... it sounds like its your first narative, I wouldnt even do more than 5 to 10 huge max

One of the organizers for the New York Film Festival told me that the average award winning short film is about 2.5 minutes long. Just an interesting note...

As far as advice, I'd say work with people who know vastly more than you. Get in over your head often. You'll learn a hell of a lot more.

Be observant. Take notice of every tiny detail, from the creation process to the final product, and drill it into your head.

Also, if you want to watch some videos online for inspiration, go to Vimeo. It's generally a lot better than the shit on Youtube.

great advice.  also, check out www.dvxuser.com  It's mostly technical information, but it's a much better filmmaking resource than NS.  There are a lot of pros, or just really skilled hobbyists from every aspect of filmmaking from funding/producing to cinematography to editing.  Read up.

yep, a great site. the searchbar there is such a great tool. But as a rule of thumb, basically don't post there unless you really know what you're saying or you really have a legit question you've searched for hours on and still can't find the answer.
