Im sick of having useless debates and name calling about politics (im including my self in this) so im going to post this somewhat neutral question and give my reasons for my answer. Lets see how far we can get with educated answers not name calling and ignorant unitelligent remarks.




Political Parties are destroying our country. Agree or disagree.


I agree, i believe political parties have turned a very great thing into something power hungry, corrupt, and ineffective.

I find that both in the US and Canada the political parties focus more on attacking eachother than advertising themselves. I have found that especially in Canada this is getting progressively worse in recent years.

I fucking hate how the U.S thinks our money we make is there they can just take. there a new law in N.Y they need more money so every N.Yer has to buy a new 25$ plates for there cars.

lol wut? If you are referring to arbitrary and oppressive tax burdens, then I am with you for sure. I am sick of an overbearing federal government thinking they can stomp on the American people and shake them down to pay for pet projects, special interests, and policies that have no bearing and no effect on the 50% of the country that is actually footing the bill.

the two party system i caused by the electoral college, if we got rid of it more candidates would run with different more moderate views on different issues, also if we used a popular vote to elect officials we wouldnt have the who the majority voted for loose an election because of the electoral college votes cough*Al Gore was our president*cough cough

at the same time, many of the founders were partisan. Remember the federalist vs antifederalist debate when it came down to getting rid of the articles of confederation and drafting a new constitution. You had a group of people who believed in a weak central government with strong state governments against a group for strong central government and limited state authority.

our country went wrong when people realized they could claim right to other peoples property, provided their gang was big enough.

that goes for the looters and moochers who claim altruistic motives.

it also goes for the businesses that realized they could legislate their competitors out of business.

If your talking about political parties in general I would say not. A major problem is lack of representation for different ideas. We should have more parties, more choices.

As for people who keep talking about how capitalism. If they actually knew much about capitalism, they would realize that were not a good example of free market capitalism at all. And the trend is leading farther away from it.

People are blaming the wrong policies. We've been shifting into socialism for years.

As for america went wrong. Blindly trusting their government, without keeping them in check. The government is there to serve the people, not the other way around. " That whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it,"


The power is in the hands of the people, not the government. Somewhere we flipped around on this. Our government has grown massively, and people seem powerless.

It's pretty messed. It's a shame the constitution is eroding along with the economy. who needs rights anyway if you aren't doing anything wrong

Political parties, lobbyists, big business, education system, preemptive war, cold war, hippies...

big business, I disagree completely with you. Who would provide all these jobs that people seem to need if it weren't for big business? Also, the education system has a lot to do with government ineptitude. Schools get plenty more than enough funding from the Fed, they just don't, or aren't allowed to, use it properly. Most of this nations ills can be traced back to the worthlessness of a government that is too large to be of any use.

Thats WHY political parties are a bad thing. Instead of serving the people it becomes about what party is in control, then when they are in control it becomes who has the most power in the party.

Federalist and anti-federalists were more of an interest group, not a political party.

Our democracy was founded on the principle that people would run for elected office, serve a term or two, then go back to their previous occupation. When political parties came about, people began using them to stay in power longer, and end up making a career out of politics. that wasn't the intention of the founding fathers. This is why george washington said in his fair well address to stay away from political parties, they will be our downfall.

now that i think about it, we have done everything GW told us NOT to do in his farewell address, he was right it is destroying us

So let's get this straight, you are for limiting the power of the largest sources of income and employment in the country? What do you think happens when you tax the shit out of the most productive segments of a society? They cut tons of jobs for one thing, but they also leave. When that happens, entire towns shutdown and whole populations are left without a source of employment. It's a recipe for disaster.

The two party system is around for a reason. It is designed as a way to prevent the US from getting a party like the Nazi party to show up. The real problem is both sides have become so extreme that it makes it so that one side gets so hated that they lose ALL kinds of seats and then you get a majority in the HoR, a Filibuster proof Senate, and that all matches the political party in the White House

This is a fundamental argument that we will never agree on.

In my opinion completely unregulated business leads to a greater division between rich and poor and creates an environment of bottom line only thinking.

Whatever I don't really have the time or energy right now and recently it seams like I am the only liberal on this site any more so I quit.

Those work for me. 1913 is crucial, that is the downfall of our economy into a poor country, from a prosperous one.

Posse comitatus is also huge. You can clearly see the militarization of police in some aspects, and this is just the start. Unfortunately probably nobody else on here has read the patriot act. That also adds to their ignorance about the current state.

Did you ever read the homegrown terror bill? It was talking about how terrosit can be different religious groups, people who repeatedly cite the constitution, all kinds of stuff. And under the patriot act "terrorists" are completely fucked.

People that actually though that the legislation against terrorists was strictly for some muslims in the middle east are complete idiots.

Were not talking about anarchy here. There is a point to the government, having checks and balances to keep the gov in line and serving the people. You need some but minimal regulation.

As we are no, the government is far to involved in every aspect of our lives, and we do almost nothing to keep it in check. If you look at history this is a pretty bad idea. governments have  strived for more power. Many governments grow in size and become corrupt. To just assume that our government is any different is ignorant. Also with the facts of what they are doing, it's even more obvious that we really need to keep the gov in line
