Why all the hate on Peter Olenick???

Okay I have been looking in some threads and there seems to be a lot of hate on Pete. Personally I think he slays, yeah he is not oozing with style but he slays pretty dang hard. Think, he was one of the first, if not the first people to throw a double in the pipe. and look at his new double this year.....

I think its sick, and if he gets a good run with it i think he could place, because Tanner isnt in the comps (injured) which would have been in the top 3 so that gives room for Pete to place. And I red someone saying that he wasn't exactly x-games material. How? He has been in the x-games for a number of years and always puts on a decent show. He is one of the origanators in the pipe and slays almost every time.

I'm probably going to get some hate for this but I just want to know what the hate is for. /rant

IMO, a lot of the hate stems from the fact that for a few years, he really wasn't doing much productive skiing or filming, while still getting lots of published photos and ads and maintaining some of the biggest sponsors. However, he is making a huge comeback. He has always been one of my favorites and I really hope that he can revive his career.

Yeah, for the past couple years, he's been around the ski scene, getting publicity, etc., but not podiuming, which erks alot of people the wrong way. I guess many see him as a "semi-pro" or one who used to compete, but has fallen off and just sorta parties. But the dude seems to be making a comeback, and I fully hope to see him slaying this year.

Even though every "off" year, he was still 30x better than me and anyone else on this site pretty much..

He gets alot of publicity but the truth is the only real progression he has brought is the new dubs in the pipe. I remember some of his segments lacking in trick vocab.

1) Because of the above mentioned.  For a few years it seemed like there were a ton of people who weren't just throwing switch 7s and doing the same rail tricks (don't get me wrong, I can't do anything he can do)    2) He doesn't seem to represent himself very well.

I personally don't like him a lot, but as you mentioned, he is still a great skier.  Nice dub there, Pete.

yeah but new dubs in the pipe could and will push pipe skiing in the right direction.... think, Jon Olson threw one of the first dubs on a jump which was a kang, now think of where the dubs are going. There is a ton of them and a ton of people throwing them and making there own dubs. I think throwing dubs in the pipe could and will push pipe skiing in the right direction. because I bet you that there will be some switch dubs in the pipe shortly, just wait.

i was just about to make a thread like this, yeah i saw in one thread people saying he's shit he shouldn't be sponsored and hes not doing anything and just still claiming the whole whisky flip thing. but come on, he just landed an alley-oop double flat 9 in the pipe. thats fucking awesome. i would put him in my top five pipe riders to podium in the majore comps.

I totally agree..... I dont think 95% percent of this site can call out any pro, and say that they havent pushed skiing, i think every pro does there own think to push sking and progress it, because any pro has progressed skiing more than 95% of us have.

Tanner threw a dub in the pipe during the x-games...I think Tanner started the revolution Pete O and the other dude who did the dub cork in the pipe are just giving it a little push.

But Pete O isn't very recognized because he seems like an idiot and all he does is party...I didn't think he skied anymore until I saw this video a few days ago. I hadn't heard of him in a while because he never seems to place in anything or have any movie parts.

Sorry for the triple post...... but


Pete threw the first dub a few x-games ago.... tanner did it after him and then the other dude, now Pete came up with a new dub to push dubs in the pipe even more.

that is true but i think that is why he doesnt compete in slope or big air, he is strictly pipe i am guessing. and i think that is why you don't see him in many movies.

Oh shit didn't know that...Well that just goes to show you that no one really cares about Pete O because I am sure no one besides kids on NS remember him throwing it and a hell of a lot more people think of tanners double. I dunno I just have a feeling he will throw it like the whisky flip and people will just be like "oh cool...whose this guy again"

not to mention pete learned switch double cork 10s and double overflips this summer glacier season....

pete's always been fuckin good at rails so i would seriously expect him to still hang in slopestyle ok

fun fact: peter was also doing switch 10s both ways before like anyone

over the past two years there has been too much hate of Pete, just because he doesent jump around on boxes like a fucking rollerblader doesent make him a bad skiier.. Pete O has just outgrown the stupid park rat phase, and is starting to focus on his specialty, halfpipe

Surprised no one has mentioned the fact he stole someone's credit card after either winning or placing at a half pipe contest and used it to pay for his, and other's, bar tab.

Low move by someone who had just won a few grand in a contest that would have been matched by sponsors....prob made more on that day then the lady made in a few months.

Another thing is if you look at his website half the pictures are of him partying and smoking and drinking...such a positive influences on the little upcoming shredders out there...He has just always seemed to me like a dude who just wants to party and could care less about his public image which is why you don't hear about him that much...

And why does he wear one big ear ring...?that is kind of stupid.

Seriously?!  NSG is filled with threads about weed, underage drinking citations, and chug references.  but pete o is a bad influence?  You know what is stupider then one big earing?  Gang signs with mittens on.  You lost all credability when you said tanner threw the first double in the pipe.  Pete was at least 2 years ahead of tanner.

Bah... the hate right now is really a product of simply people being angry they can't ski.

Pete is an awesome skier, and to see him really stepping his game up this year is amazing. On basically anyone there will be supporters and haters.

Not saying it is a reason to hate him just saying it is not a good public image to have if you want to try and get your name out there...But I am not a pro skier and not having thousands of people watch me ski in the x-games. And I am not saying he is a bad dude just from seeing his pictures and seeing some of his stuff on Chug Life he just doesn't seem like a dude I would look up to.


And I am not bashing his skiing at all...and not bitching just giving my opinion on the matter.

But his initials are PRO soo that is pretty cool?

Maybe your just pissed because he gets paid to ski. And partying is part of his image which gives him this badass feel which appeals to certain demographics, so really he gets paid because he's a partier that is also awesome at skiing thus making you mad.
