Dr. NS, what did I do to my knee?

Ok, so saturday was my third day skiing of the year and I was trying ski slide to blindsoul on the flatbar my hill had set up and I took a really weird fall that hurt my knee. It was deffinatley a fall where my left knee hit up against the rail really hard and twisted when I hit the ground. My ski did'nt release and my leg twisted with it. Now I have a really uncomftorable feeling on the inside of my left knee to just above my left knee. I can walk and have a normal range of motion but i have trouble walking up and down stairs and i def couldnt run right now or jump on it. It's not really a pain as much as it is a weird feeling that i have never felt before. If anyone has experience with this it could help. Maybe im just tweakin out cause its early in the season and i dont want to be out or cause alot of kids i know have recently tore stuff in their knee but im not really sure guess it serves me right for trying rollerblade stuff tho haha

Haha Mr. Meeks you are fine. Sleep on it some more and ice it some more with occasional heat massage. You'll be skiin with us again  next week.

also it hurts when i touch it and feels squeeky when i like massage the area. Sorry if this makes me sound like a pussy haha, im not, just nervous bout my season

the location doesnt sound like a meniscus. if it was the meniscus, lateral meniscus would be on the outside of your knee cap where it dimples, and medial is the inside of the knee cap where it dimples.

is it swollen?/how swollen is it?

yup this is what it sounds like. i know the feeling youre talking about too where its not like pain just really weird. i have bruised my meniscus twice now and this is what it sounds like you did

its kind of swollen still and its on my left leg, above and to the right of the kneecap, that is where it hurts.....

Sounds like an MCL injury based on the location and range of motion. Ice it, give it a day or two, and then head into the doc's office.

its a possibility but personally i think its just a trauma to the muscle, causing small amounts of swelling and moderate pain. You have a large muscle that protects this area of the leg, which could be the location of the trauma.

regardless...take an anti-inflammatory once a day for a day or two (such as advil) and ice 15 minutes on, 15 minutes off...once every couple hours to decrease the swelling. This is an important process in recovery to even small injuries in order for proper healing to take place.

be careful with strenuous movement after you ice the knee as it will become injury prone until it gets back to body temperature.

most important is go to your doctor and see whats up for sure.

is the knee bruised at all? if it is a trauma as i suspect you will most likely not see bruising for 12 hours after the accident.

another thing...if it was an MCL tear...the swelling would be fairly persistent as the swelling would be excess fluid, not just inflammation of the joint which is the bodies first line of response to any kind of injury.

hey man, it sounds like some stuff ive gone thru. it def sounds like maybe meniscus. but if you have normal ROM and you  can walk, you should be fine, ice all the days and make sure you see an ortho, running shouldnt be normal with meniscus problems. More than not you should be fine, just meniscus irritation.+ vibes

Yeah same I popped a bursa sack that swelled up in my knee but it dosent sound swollen if anything I'd get My doc to Check it out and either go to PT but try to only do pt because all the orthopedic doctors want to do is give you surgery so they can make money! But if it's bad do watcha gotta do

Some wacky rollerblade trick where you drag your ski and twist your leg or some shit.

Rollerblades arent 6 feet long mayne, be careful with those crazy ass "grinds"

good luck with your knee though, sounds like when I tore my mcl, is your knee feeling stable?
