"The storm, symbolizing science, can enlighten and darken as well. Victor thought his creation would be a scientific break through. The 'light' was hurting the monster; the monster was experiencing pain from knowledge. Both the monster and Victor notice the dual possibilities of light. Victor struggles throughout the novel to find a balance between a safe level of knowledge and the dangers from acquiring excess. When the monster was meandering through the woods in hope of finding a means of being heated, he once again was faced with opposite effects one cause could produce. And just as it is pleasantly warm at moderate levels, it ignites dangerous flames at higher ones. The monster initially discovers the broad possibilities of light upon his creation. The light burned him, but he found that it was beneficial as well as possibly dangerous. d as means to pursue his study of knowledge. Victor begins to see that there are two sides to light; it can illuminate or it can burn. The light, which had once only been beneficial, is now causing negative consequences. Victor does not notice this comparison this early on, but when he creates the monster, he curses the day the monster saw light."
