My new skis, Inspired by kittens.

This is my newest pair of skis that I just finished up today.  I kind of documented the building process via terrible quality cell phone pictures.  I’m fairly pleased with how they turned out.  The dimensions of the skis are 125-135-133-134-120 and they are 183 cm in length.  They have no camber under foot and 25 mm of rocker in the tip and tail.  The skis consist of a poplar core, 3 layers of 22 oz fiberglass, carbon stringer in the tail, p-tex bases, sidewalls, and topsheet, a layer of cotton for the graphic, and lots of kittens.  Here are some pictures.

I still need to grind the bases and bevel the sidewalls but that's pretty much everything.  Sorry for the excellent quality pics and some gaps in the process.  Now I just need snow.

The $220 includes nothing but the cost of the ski materials.  The press, molds, and templates have a great variance in price depending on how legitimate you make them and what tools you have available.

As far as actual skis go, I made them over the course of a week doing a little bit of work everyday.  As far as everything you need to make skis, quite a while.

5 hours is pretty quick nice work. What was you core profile underfoot and at the tip and tail? Im trying to decide on how thick to make mine? I am only doing 2 layers of glass and a tiny bit of carbon but mine are super fat so i dont want them to be too heavy and stiff.

Materials for this particular pair were approximately $220.  Price varies greatly though depending on the materials used.

just curious if you heat treated the tips and tails so they wont delam before pressing?  Nice looking sticks, howd you make the mold?  1x1s of wood with metal over it?

All p-tex was either flame treated before pressing or was factory abraded, this includes tip spacers.  And the actual mold was constructed entirely of mdf ribs.  We cut one out with a cnc machine and then used a router for the rest.  The mold is then covered with UHMW to prevent any unwanted bonding.
