Replying to For sale: 96 Outback beater car in NY
I bought this recently with the intention of repairing it and having an additional car for my mom but I've been trying to move out west and I've decided I could use the cash instead. Has 136k and the headgaskets went recently so hopefully there wasn't any warping. The guy had it towed home and didn't risk driving it further. He put in about $2500 in the 2 years that he had it and I have most of his receipts.
From my first go through here is the bad news:
Headgaskets
Rear Wiper motor
Rust in the usual places
Looks to be cracked cv boots on the front (Couldn't really tell as I haven't lifted it yet but better safe than sorry)
Rear struts are very bouncy although he said he had a shop replace them less than a year ago
1 fog light
No radio but I have one out of a 98 with weatherband I may include if the price is right
The good:
New all seasons less than a year ago with great wheels
New rotors, pads, lines this year (might steal the parking brake pads or rear rotors altogether)
New gas tank and filler tube
All electrical works as far as I know
Regular oil changes (have most receipts)
Appears to be engine block heater (Who needs that with a blown headgasket?!)
New alternator
I'll check the receipts later to see if I'm missing something. The car is located in Syracuse, NY at my dads warehouse. I was going to do the work there because it's heated and we have forklifts. If someone is confident they can repair a headgasket in a weekend you're more than welcome to do the work there otherwise it will need to be towed. I don't have a set price in mind so make me some offers. If I don't have a reasonable offer I'll fix it myself and go from there. Send me a PM or my email is esparks aaaaatttttt twcny.rr.com
Pictures to be posted later.
