Afterbang durabiltiy

Has anyone who has skied their Line Afterbangs noticed that they chip very easily?

yes, the wooden top sheet does chip pretty easily (mine are starting to get pretty beat up), but it isn't anything to worry about, in fact you could even sand it down (cause its wood) with a light sandpaper. I'm pretty sure once it reaches a certain point of wear they don't get as beat up (I know that seems odd, but I can't really explain it). I skied with Ian Compton and Will Wesson at a rail jam yesterday (I know - claim) and they both had their afterbangs with them and they were pretty beat up, but from what I could tell no actual damage to the ski (it was all cosmetic) and they said they've been skiing them since the spring, so if they don't wreck them I think you'll be fine.

They have - but the ones they used yesterday were from the beginning of the summer...at least that's what they told me, and they have no reason to lie to me about them since I already have mine...

However, they have skied multiple skis within that time...but they ski almost every day and both ski LOTS of rails. They told me that the afterbangs are truly one of the most durable skis they've ever been on besides the top sheet.

the whole point of the afterbang topsheet is to get banged up like that.....they are supposed to wear like a skate board

(I was told this at the line clinic for my shop)

that's what I thought, it's not like it's the sickest graphic ever so if it wears it's not like everyone is going to be super pissed. Kind of a sick idea, I just wish they told everyone so people didn't freak out.

Hey, my local ski hill just opened up so I rode my Afterbangs for two days. They are an amazingly fun ski! I love them so much, I don't love how they chip up though. I got so many chips in the top sheet in only two days, and I was tryin hard to not cling them together riding or on the chair lift. I know chipping is only cosmetic and stuff, but i got a little crack/chip line in one of my tips. This sorta frightens me, and my mom is now mad I bought them, because she dosen't think they will last the season. Do you think at this point that doing rails at my local tobaganing hill would be a bad idea? How bad are your top sheets? any cracks in the tip part? Maybe you could show me some pics of yours so I can compare them to myn, and so that every one on ns could get a taste for how they look after a bit of skiing. Thanks man.

As you can see, they are pretty beat up - This is after about 5 or 6 days of skiing, 1 on hill, 4 or 5 at rail jams/backyard sessions. They got more beat up in the backyard/rail jams then on the hill, after I got back from Mount Snow yesterday they didn't look any worse than when I got there. I hope that helps, I wouldn't worry about it too much - I've seen the pros skis and they look even more beat up than mine, but not not top the point where they look like they're gonna fall apart and they ski just fine.

its weird seeing a wooden ski kinda reminds me of a water ski lol but in the pics it just looks like the wood is a little worn down i agree with you that there would be no structural damage. Your bindings have taken a beating! lol

haha, yeah, all the chrome paint chipped off the heel piece - but that's cause I don't use my pole to get out of my bindings. But, I think they look like they've taken more of a beating than the skis, haha.

My afterbangs look similar after two days of riding hard on rails, but the bases are hardly marked.  They ride really well and are very durable.  Everyone can read my review if they are still unsure about the Afterbangs.

I know this might be a silly question,

but is it possible to sand the paint off ? and possibly repaint?

i'm not a fan of the graphics !

I'm getting a free pair from the local ski shop and was curious as to what my options were :P

I don't use my poles to get out of my bindings, and chrome paint isn't the best paint - it tends to flake easily especially in the cold, so a combination of me stepping on them to release the bindings and some not so long lasting paint is what happened - it doesn't really matter, it's just paint.

and yes, you can sand off the graphic fairly easily and repaint - and since it's a wooden top sheet you can use any type of furniture or wood paint.

that is pretty bad after only 5 sessions. I guess these will be a one season ski.

I had my mojos for 3 seasons and they are not too bad. I think once i get afterbangs they will look alot worse after one season than my mojos after 3. lol oh well i want a fun ski! plus theyre cheap. They will prolly improve the topsheet for next year also.

It's all top sheet, the ski itself will probably last a while. But, if it only does last one season, it's only $300. I've had $600 skis last less than one season...that sucks.

bad idea, you would be sanding the laminate too that keeps them from rotting away.  I would just deal with it honestly, graphics dont matter, their an awesome ski.  Mine have chipped pretty insane though =[  Just ignore it haha
