Glidecam 2000 pro

Hey guys, so I just picked up a glidecam used off ebay to mess around with and wasnt really sure what to expect since a lot of the footage I saw on the internet wasnt very impressive. But I was pleasantly surprised by it! I played around with it for a little with my 7D and just posted some test footage, check it out http://vimeo.com/8008689

I cant wait to get out and use it to shoot some skiing!

question about the lens does that apply a crop factor or no?
saw that you were pretty pumped on picking one up on that skate vid on vimeo

Yeah, 1.6x crop factor. So on the long end I was shooting a 115mm equivalent! It was tricky to say the least.

Cool dog and I thought my itunes started to play that song but then I realized it was form your video. Such a good song to ski with.

That's awesome though, I'd imagine skiing follow cams would look a lot smoother with that. Were you running or walking fast most of the time or just normal walking?

another question. How do you feel the learning curve is for operation and camera setup. I know you haven't used it much but gives us an update as you learn a little more.
everyone on cinema 5d says it's like the hardest thing in the world to balance. but then again standards over there might be a lot higher then what I would call acceptable footage.

damn yo i wish i had put my glide cam up for sale before you bought that. mine has been collecting dust for far too long. i willt ry to use a few times this year but i am not too sure it will happen. Loved the look, and damn the 7d looks sooo good! and so does your gf ;)

Dude, get ready for your arm to fall off, haha. I couldnt imagine shooting anything over about 5mins if my rig was any heavier.

Wow is all I have to say.  The 7D shoots great video that's for sure, just not ready to give up my hv20 yet for a 7d.  Plus I don't have the funds. 

I have been contemplating purchasing a glidecam for my HV20 or creating a DIY one this week.

Also, I am finding the glidecam 1000 pro to be available for fairly cheap now since its been replaced by the 2000.  Not sure if I want to go with that or not.

Well I mean ill only actually be holding it for about a min at a time each run. I mean its gonna be heavy but ill get used to it, hopefully.

Dude, I couldnt afford that setup there, WAY too sick for me. Plus I dont think I could pull it off as good as the asian guy in the pic, such a badass...

I tried to make one a little while ago, I can tell you first hand, its not the same. Get the glidecam. And I think even the glidecam is the cheap route. With these things you sort of get what you pay for.

I did some runs with my Glidecam 2000 Pro yesterday and your wrist will kill in a matter seconds. I would recommend getting or building an arm brace. Its not that heavy but holding it with your wrist will kill you.

the audio clicking in your video is pretty annoying. i'm guessing you are editing on FCP and imported the audio track as an MP3 instead of an AIFF. if thats the case you should remember that for some odd reason FCP doesn't like MP3 audio.

or maybe i'm way off...

I've made a few homemade ones with mixed results.  Generally, the cheapo ones work okay with smaller cameras.  I made this one for my hv20 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rTRbGXJvrA but it didn't work at all with my XHA1.  I ended up making one simiarish to the one the asian guy up above has, only with more weight on the bottom, a slightly different camera mount, and the entire thing was made of galvanized steel pipe.  Works pretty well, but I'll probably upgrade next time I have a good reason to.

I think its funny on your video, how your shadow while snowboarding looks the same with and without the stabilizer... I'm thinking your video isn't at legit as it seems...

maybe i missed it, but i never saw a part that was snowboarding without the stabilizer.  it went from "snowboarding with stabilizer" to "hitting jumps with stabilizer"
