My perfect hybrid of lifestyles = Jazz Saxophone and Freeskiing
Tenor Sax may not be hood or thug like the way I dress when in the park, but damn I love it.

Anyways, I'm still in highschool and was wondering if anyone on NS has tried the musician by night skier by day lifestyle, if its possible, that sort of thing.

PS: suggest any favorite jazz tunes i should check out

well, i am. i play piano primarily with a little bit of alto sax on the side. i'm more serious about jazz than anything to be honest. some good tunes are hocus pocus, stella by starlight, simone, very early, my foolish heart, yes or no, cherokee, dolphin dance, nefertiti, bolivia, round midnight, oleo, doxy, tenderly, there will never be another you, tour de force, tenor madness and lament.

i play alto sax in my highschools jazz band

i like it, but i just never practice and that doesnt go well with the teacher or the other musicians.

im pretty good but i could be better if i tried. its just something i do for fun, without the work.

Yesterday's New Quintet albums = Madlib making jazz

i have never really had any conflicts with music and skiing, yet.

did you hear the recently aired hour long special on NPR about him? i heard part of it, pretty interesting. also watch straight no chaser if you wanna learn about him. i suggest also taking a look at people who've tried out the monk style: jason moran, marcus roberts, bill charlap among them.

very out-there character.

I play tenor sax! Also played alto and barritone but my mom sold my alto for christmas money so now I'm sax-less.

Although I'm asking for a flute for christmas. The one instrument that really gave me problems, and I'm going to try and learn it on my own.

I'm a drummer, cant say I'm an expert with jazz though. I can funk it up real good though, and I play snare on a college line. I just need to devote more time to jazz standard type stuff. I have the chops for it, I just haven't drilled the fundamentals of jazz enough to get it on lock.

Check out Joe Locke. He plays vibraphone. Its pretty sick stuff.

I'm into jazz piano...Oscar Peterson is a great jazz player. Anything by him is going to be really mellow and enjoyable to listen to. And he's fun to play too.
