I just watched Refresh last night, and one of the things I noticed (aside from how sick the movie was) was how few of their original crew were in the movie.

Its amazing how all these up and coming kids just breaking into the movies, and the older guys simply seem to get pushed aside. I am not complaining about this, because who wouldn't want to see guys like Harlaut, Casabon or Brogan slay, but I can't believe some of the original level 1 crew seems to just fade into the background.

Like what happened to guys like:

- stefan thomas
- steele spence
- travis redd
- dan marion
- craig coker
- liam downey (had like 3 shots)
- matt philippi

Stefan had a few shots from AK, but I agree that I wish he had more. His section in LSS was so ill. And pretty sure he still kills it really hard.

Steele now works, I believe exclusively for 4frnt, both as a co-owner and doing a lot of the graphic design work for them.

Travis, well I really don't know what happened to Travis. Seems like he was just gradually fazed out through out the last couple years. I have no idea where he is or what he is doing now.

Marion shot with Meathead's last year, and from what I've heard can still kill it.

Coker kind of faded away, but has been hanging, skiing, and filming a bunch with Tim Russell. I've heard a possible multi-year film project involving the antics and skiing of just Coker and Russell, however I don't know if this is still happening.

Downey definitely is still really under rated and still kills it super hard. My guess is that things just didn't come together that well as far as getting shots for Refresh. Because according to the edits dropped last year, he still has plenty of skills.

Philippi I believe is just focusing more on pipe riding and competeing. He has been in the finals at a lot of top pipe contests the past few years, and on the podium at a few of those as well.

They should have a park shoot where they just bring all the old timers back, including Dave Crichton and Derek Finn!

yea i agree man i wish they kept some of the guys on, i thought the same thing when i say the first teaser for refresh, it didnt even seem like a level one video.

but i guess im still stuck in the days of high five, and LSS.

your taking the words out of my mouth, dave crighton was SUCH a sick skier, a just watched forward yesterday night and it's a big loss not having him again in movies. I think he has some kind of a serious disease but im not sure... anyone knows whats happening to him?

and yea, park shoot with all the back in the days folks would be awesome, there's no way it couldnt be nice.

Dave has Chron's...he won't be back skiing competitively/making segments. Although it was super sweet to see him at IF3. It's gotta be tough to even be near the ski scene when your basically being forced to stop doing the thing you love most.

And as far as the rest, sometimes things just don't work out as far as getting shots. I'll leave it at that.

Downey has been in every level1 vid i've ever seen. props to him, a true L1P legend!!

L1P to me represents the freshest stuff in skiing, and to do this they have to evolve and select the newest faces that represent the evolution of the sport.  In my opinion they have done just this. 

I think Travis redd blew his knee 2 seasons ago, and is prolly just moving on to more what he wants to do, not what will get him in a vid. but i have no idea.  i'm sure they are all still heavily shredding and loving skiing!!!

Injured 2 years ago, came back last season, but I never saw a seggy. I've heard he's still killing it though. Don't count him out. He'll be back. He's on team GoPro too, I believe.

that would seem like an insufficient explanation considering turbo was basically the Tanner Rainville/Stefan Thomas show

and considering liam and berman were in Vail last season together competing in a film competition, that kinda proves that downey is still very much in the loop...plus he's on Volkl so they def want to see him in a movie if he's down for it

maybe their seasons went in directions that didnt include a lot of filming or something? i sincerely doubt theyre on the outs with Level 1, maybe they just didnt get as much filming in for whatever reason and were focusing on other stuff in their lives

Maybe for some, but definitely not in our case. Back the the OP- it's easy to get nostalgic, but you can't make a movie on that alone, things change.

Joking or not... I think Brogan has had the least important video presence of any Super Unknown winner. The kid is always good for a few shots, but I don't put him in the same league as Vanular, Wallisch, Clarke, or JD. And I think Aurdal is gonna be huge. Didn't he have more shots this year than brogan has ever had?

i think like the last TWO years actually, but he'll kill it this year, anyone who still thinks he's a shitty superunknown is going to have to eat their words when next year's film comes out...i see him out there pretty much every time i go ski in summit, he's out there seshing constantly and the kid slays hard

I kind of agree with you - its a bit sad, and what's crazy to think is what films will be like in 3/4 years.

With so many kids coming through and killing it, and so many guys who will be considered "old" by then, some of the guys we like watching the most at the moment might not be getting any shots at all! The main film companies can only put so many skiers in their movie and with more skiers getting found out on the internet  a la wallisch, so many people are gonna end up getting left out. . .

i agree with you but you know liam downey had way more than 3 shots and its pretty decent its not everybody who has a complete seg. stefan thomas had shots in the ak segment.
