^^^I don't think you
said what you meant here...
His advice is good but his punctuation or lack there of, is bad. What I am sure
he means, and what I would say is don't do anything to get you worked up. Just
have fun with it. You will never throw your best run if you are tense. The key
is not to get hyped up. You could have the run of your life in terms of trick
technicality but your style and therefore your scores will suffer if you can’t
stay calm.
I am going to run with this and give you all the comp advice I have. If you already know, then feel free to disregard all of this, but I learned this
shit the hard way. Hopefully anyone reading this wont have to...
In your first run just do your stock comp tricks. Not the best tricks you have,
but the tricks you know you will land. (Strictly hypothetical) That rodeo 9
will be sweet in the finals but if you can replace it with a smooth and
consistent rodeo 5 and still qualify then stick with that. Put up a score then
plan on bettering it. Add in harder tricks, or better grabs, or whatever you
think will score better in your later run(s). Keep an Ace up your sleeve and
lay it down in your last run. If you have the run of your life in the first
run, your competition will know exactly how much pressure is on from the very
beginning and they will respond to it. Just stay calm and relaxed and try not
to change your game plan unless you really need to. Throw on head phones listen
to the same playlist as usual and do what you envisioned the night before when
you couldn't sleep. Only do tricks that you are confident you can link together
and if you are unsure… error on the easy side until you have a do or die
situation. Keep in mind that falls get you nowhere! You will see some crazy
shit in practice, but don’t get worked up. That mystery kid may have a clean switch
cork 9 true tail, but he probably has never tried a switch misty 7 true nose as
the set up trick. (What he can do on a warm weather care free park day is not
what he will do in a freezing cold January comp run.) Everyone is trying to
bring there A-game which means at least 30% of the guys in your heat are trying
to do too much. Half of them will fall and so will some of the guys who have
there run but choke under pressure, so plan on taking advantage. Just stay warm
and loose and try to put it on your schedule as much as possible. Don’t let the
dude holding the clip board at the top fuck with you. End Rant
