a few months ago i got a blank bamboo longboard and blank trucks and wheels so that I could paint it and use it to get around campus so that i didnt have to push as much compared to my park deck and take the bumps better (smoother ride to class) and wouldnt have to worry about puddles and shit. I threw a pair of rush abec 7s that I had on my park board on it and it seemed ok until i started taking hills... my friends board (granted he has a loaded and stock abec 7s) flys compared to mine. my question is that if i get new bearings will it even help? the 7's i put on were practically new, so i'm thinking that its the shitty trucks and wheels that are making me top out. I dont wanna pay for a new pair of bearings if they wont do anything and wont get used, so if anyone can help me out that'd be sick
haha i know that. Im just wondering if blank trucks and wheels are making it slow. the bearings seemed fine on my park board but you dont bomb hills on a park board so its possible its the bearings, and its possible its the trucks and wheels. searching for someone with experience on this
nope its pretty much all the bearings, i have some pretty good knowlege on this topic, wheels for the comfort of the ride, bearings for speed, trucks for turning. and by parkboard you mean skateboard correct? cause if not im confused.
yes, skateboard. and nothing was cracked... i cleaned and lubed them before putting them on the board. rush 7s werent all that bad i thought, but i guess so. so ur saying that if i throw on some bones or something it will be that dramatic of a difference from rush 7s?
well i havent heard of a better bearing, but maybe the rest of ns has. usually when you take the bearing off the wheels (when done incorrectly) they break, ive done it before, everyone has. i mean i got a broken bearing on my skateboard right now, but the good thing is even if you dont do anything it still works fine!
anyone else have input? or perhaps as he said, does anyone have any suggestions for good longboard bearings to cruise? if possible, im looking for ones on the cheaper side. I know there are some good ones that are cheaper but harder to find like rockin rons and ninjas
ehh thats not completly true I have abec 9's on my board with 77mm wheels while my friend has abec 5's and 75mm wheels. He is faster in the beginning cause smaller wheels get rolling faster but top out, while bigger wheels keep rolling longer and keep gaining speed. It also depends on how hard your wheels are. It says right next to how big they are on the wheel. Usually longboard wheels are about 75a, while skateboard wheels are 99a. It just means how hard the urethane is.
from my understanding of bearings i think you need something faster than abec 7's. i've always heard that all bearings ride the same at slow speeds (assuming they're in good working order), but the higher the abec number, the faster the bearings will be able to go. so abec 5's and abec 9's will ride the same if you're slowly pushing around. but if you're doing anything with serious speed you'll need to get bearings with a higher abec number.
i dont know man, my old bearings are way faster than my brand new ones. as long as they are still clean, the old ones are faster. try some narrower wheels
good point. i didnt think of wheel size. i dont remember what they are but they were what i found to be average size and hardness from internet searching before i bought it. perhaps my friend's are bigger and harder... ill check on that. and yeah in my experience it doesnt matter a whole lot with slow skating either way
