First trip to the East Coast

My dad and I are taking a week long trip this March up through New England to do nothing but ski. One of those last father/son bonding moments before I graduate college and have to go into the real world. I'm supposed to plan where we go but I have absolutely no clue what path to take. If anyone could help out with some suggestions I'd really appreciate it.

So far I have us going to Holiday Valley then to Whiteface. From there to Jay Peak then Mad River Glen. Holiday Valley and Whiteface are pretty much set in stone since my dad grew up in New York, but everything past that is still just an idea.

Thanks for the help and ideas in advance.

I'd say maybe cut across into NH and hit up Loon, other than that I got nothin'.

jay, mad river,snow, most of the mountians in maine suck, killington is ok kinda, loon is awsome but i heard that its 100ish a day, waterville is fun,  but make sure you go to jay

right around $7 if you dont buy food there. if you hit up loon (which i completely recomend you do!) just go to the groccery store in between the highway and the mountain and just pick up some sandwhiches or something for WAYYY cheaper than the mountain.

If this trip is about bonding between you and your father then the Mountains you go to don't need a huge terrain park. I assume he doesn't ski park (I assume you ski park). And if it is really about bonding then you will ski with him outside of the park, except for the runs when he wants to see what you can do. You'll need to ski at mountains that will give a you an experience together.


 So make sure you go to: Jay Peak, Mad River Glen, Sugarbush/Stowe

Jay and MRG are awesome choices. I am in the process of building a website about all the New England ski resorts.  it is still a work in progress but if you go to it you can find out about every resort, ticket prices, trail maps and where they are located so if you are trying to logistically plan things driving wise you may find that useful. Also on another note I am going to need some help from the New England New Schoolers. As I have been building the site I have realized I am missing an entire demographic that are into terrain parks. I don't know shit about them as all I do is occasionally drift into one and launch off one of the jumps and my kids aren't good enough yet to hit the more intense ones. As the resorts get up and running I am going to be looking for details on who has what features and whether or not they are any good. Any help will be appreciated. Yeah, I'm not going to touch a jump. I'll be skiing with my dad the whole time.

I think Jay and MRG are going to work out great for us. Thanks to everyone who threw out an idea.

Stoweeeeeeeeee

I've had my best EC skiing experiences there; if you hit it good, it's fucking amazing.  The Front Four and any of the trees are killer, and hiking Mansfield is a quick and awesome adventure.

If you want to make the trek into maine i'd suggest Sugarloaf, sick weather in march and some of the best EC terrain open that time around, you got glades, steeps (above the treeline!) and everything in between with pretty good snow.

But like everyone else said Jay, Stowe, Mad River Glen, maybe tuckermans? probably way too early but you never know

most mountains in maine suck, but waterville is fun? are you smoking rocks? sunday river and sugarloaf are better than every mountain in nh, except loon if you ski only park.

stowe is awesome.  best trees and powder skiing on the east coast.  jay is also in the mix for the best terrain/pow on the east.

stowe and jay are a must.

stratton!! stratton's going off this year and it's gonna be dope. great parks, great trees, great atmosphere, plus cedric the lifty.

also, may I ask why anyone would ever go to the east for shredding? not trying to be mean but we all go west for the best.(rhyme)

sunday river should be getting a bunch more trails open so it wont be crowded.  should be one of your stops.  is this trip this week or some week later in the winter?

actually, that's the exact week of the us open of snowboarding at stratton. so unless you want to go to that (which is still really fun) then probably don't go to stratton that week

sugarloaf

im guessing its more of a ski trip than park ski trip, but those last three will have some good parks around march if you venture in there. jay, mrg, stowe, and sugarloaf will have great terrain all over too.

Wait? The west? I've never heard of this place. Like they have mountains not on the east coast?

Haha sorry for the sarcasm but I never understand why people always say this. As if I didn't know that the west has better skiing. The fact of the matter I can't take a week-long road trip out west with my dad and get a good amount of skiing in. Plus we have family out east so it just makes sense.

Kep. one mountain not mentioned that I really like is Burke. If you are there on a week day you will feel like you own the mountain and only invited a few guests. Decent terrain especially after a dumping but slow lifts. I see a lot of mention of parks by some of the other posters but it seems that is not what you are looking for on this trip. Burke would be a great stop between Jay and MRG or if you go from Jay over to NH or Maine. Check out Burke here. http://www.new-england-ski-mountain-resorts.com/Burke-Mountain.html
Other posters may agree or disagree but it is worth checking out.

If your trying to move around a lot I'd do a nice tour starting at Killy then going like this Sugarbush, Mad River Glen, Stowe, and then make a nice 2 day trip at Jay Peak. Excluding Killington, you could easily stay in Stowe (great little town, fantasic restaurants etc.). You are probably 30 minutes or so from MRG and Sugarbush. And 2hour~ drive from jay peak. The drive up to Jay is actually really pleasurable to. Oh and Smuggs is very close too.

if you're going to jay and MRG already, you have to hit up stowe, it's right in that area. it has some of the best trees and powder in the east if you go to the right spot. since you aren't going for park, don't go to mt snow or loon.
