Ski shop mounted my skis right

So I got my brand new skis last week, so stoked bro! I wanted to get skiing them right away, so I planned to let my local shop do the mounting. Before I left my house, I took a ruler and measured to find center on my skis. I went and measured tip to tail to check the length before I marked center, because some ski companies measure length differently and I wanted to be sure I had it right. I put a dot at center on the topsheet with a sharpie, then measured off center to where I wanted my bindings centered (just cause I don't ride every pair I have centered). Then I went to my local ski shop. I didn't let anyone else take them, because I knew what I wanted and wanted something this valuable done right. The salesperson at the desk looked a bit new at the job and a little confused when I showed them my skis, so I politely asked to talk to one of the techs. I made sure the tech saw my mark and knew what I wanted, and it was cool getting to know my shop staff a little more. A week later I picked them up, and believe it or not, they were done exactly right. I was amazed. I didn't have to come back to the shop and complain or ask for my money back or demand new skis. Simply astonishing.

Are you suggesting that taking responsibility for your actions by properly preparing is more useful than putting forth 0 effort and then making a thread on NS that bitches about your experience?

False, I'm just going to pay $30 and leave the store.  If they don't already know what I want, those noobs revolving around me can buy me new skis.

i jsut mount my own skiies. your all dubm for takign them to teh shopz. just get any size drill bit and use ur drill and liek try to line up the bindign but it really dosnt mattr and then screw in and u have ur skiies with bindigns

nicely done. how would you approach this situation: getting a pair of used donner partys mounted with fks 155s. the vice the shop has barely fits the skis themselves, the jig comes nowhere near the width of the ski, and the bindings dont have brakes cause bending fks to 142mm just doesnt seem worth it and the shop is VERY hesitant to mount your skis without brakes for liability etc. luckily though, the tech there is really stoked on your setup and wants to help. also, you want them mounted at recommended, but the previous mount for some solllys interferes with the new one.

i know the solution. lets see how you do.

i'd use a paper template at home and mount them myself, or your shop can do a freehand fks mount. that's what my local shop does with fks on fatter skis. as for brakes, i could bend fks out to 140 with plenty to spare...i've been called the best brake bender of my generation...by people who've seen the brakes i've bent

I bet you also put a piece of masking tape on the tips to designate the tip of the ski so it isn't confused with the tail

Rowen does not get new skis.... he makes them

and since hes so tech savvy, i highly doubt he had a shop mount them (especially with all the fancy machines he has).

Moral of the story: do your own math, double check it, make sure you talk to the right people at the right shop, and make sure they understand what you want.  And like he said, be polite and cool about it.  It helps.

Hey me too except I had the shop tech measure out the length of the ski, cut that in half, and measure that out because thats what I'm paying him for.

To be fair I watched the supervisor of the place have to explain to the tech what to do like 4 times because first he wanted to just measure up 4cm from my -4cm previous mounting point (which would have worked but still) and then he thought center mounted ment the top binding is mounted on the center line. Thats what I get for going to Sport Chalet instead of a ski shop but Sport Chalet is like 2 minutes from my house and the nearest ski shop is a 30min+ drive, and in the opposite direction of the resort lol.

Now at least I have a Dick's Sporting Goods, they carry a lot more park skiing gear than Sport Chalet. And by a lot more I mean a few pairs of twin tips and one pair of park oriented boots.

i do wish i had the competency to mount my own skis but sadly i dont. yet. i'm learning though. until then there are only 2 people in my whole area that i trust with my skis. they do everything for me and they do  it perfect. i wish everyone could be fortunate enough to find good ski shop techs. and believe me i have tried a lot of different people, but after a year or two i literally only let a very select number of people touch my sticks. hopefully everybody can find somebody like this...

i love my local shop. i walked in with skis and bindings, the tech asks me "centered?" and i say "yep" and walk out.

i come back the next day, and boom, whaddaya know? theyre perfect!

i also mount all my urbs or already used skis by myself. its really not that hard.

i was a Ski Tech at Chicks/Dick Sporting Goods. DO NOT respect that company. they are shithead assholes who take over smaller conglomerates and turn respectable ski shops into sports authorities. its a joke.
