Yeah, ive filled almost a tb of space in the past year, 900mb to be exact. need a new one soon. But i also film in a very high quality codec...

I've heard the same thing. We use one as a mass storage backup for our VMs at work. They're amazing as file servers. Too slow for anything else though.

this!: i have data on my internal drive, one Hard drive at my dorm and one at home...
(internal = 500gig, dorm=1TB, home = 1TB)

yes but for a while I was just buying firewire 800 portable drives, these are always good to have but I want a permanent place to store all of my shit, and plus the amount of storage I can have on that thing would be great.

yaeh well evan gets 10-16gb out of maybe 20-30 mins of footage. hvx footage is LARGE. LARGE. LARGE (just imagine those three words increased with size each time)...i wish i could afford a drobo or some really nice HD but for now i have to deal with my iomega and WD..

Ya, shooting p2 adds up on your hdd real fast. I've already filled up a 1tb drive I got in the middle/end of the summer. Fun stuff. I don't even shoot 1080/30p, I usually just shoot 720/30pn and 60p when I know I plan on slowing something down.

i figured as much. What do you have for card(s)? Right now I've got one 32gb which is usually enough, but I think I might have to pick up another for event coverage stuff. Dropping $600 on a memory card is so steep though, i'm going to wait it out as long as i can and hope they release a new card that's cheaper, like they did with the e-series.

I have a 1tb Toshiba hd that I picked up from Microcenter for about 120. It is both Mac and PC compatible. I generally use it to store my video, photos, and music. I have filled about a quarter of it with music only haha. But i love it. Works stellar. When i begin filming this winter I may need a second one though. This really wasn't a topic of question but this may help others in purchasing external hd's. prob not tho haha

Well I felt it was necessary to add that in there because when i was researching which one to buy on the internet a lot of them said pc only. I wanted one that was compatible with both.

I only have 1 16gb but i have a 32gb in the mail right now. 16gb was enough just shooting 30p in the park, but i want to only shoot 60 and not have to go through my clips half way through the day. I feel like 32gb would be enough for me, but i decided spending 200 dollars more for twice the memory (to triple my current memory) was worth it.


As for the price going down/being expensive, 600 for 32gb p2 is CHEAP 16gb rseries used to be like 900 bucks, i dont think they are gonna be making a new series anytime soon too, it took them like 5 years just to make the esereis. I'd say youre good with 32 unless you think you need more, which you might from the sounds of what youre saying.
