Ski specs

ive been wondering lately about ski specs.
why is it that for most skis, the ski only gets longer, but not wider?
why doesnt the si as a whole increase its proportions?

with an example: the rocker of the hellbent is 2cm i believe?
proportionally the 169 hellbent will have a way steeper rocker than the 189 hell bent.
o wait, im stupid, the bents have a 40/20 rocker right? ok, but you get the principle?

or with the width of the ski. the 169 is just as wide as the 189. a person being 169 tall will have a proportionally fatter ski, than a person that is 189 tall.



why doesnt the industry create skis proportionally? supposing a company said, the ski has the perfect proportions at 175cm length. lets say its a park ski and its 109-82-109.
the 165 ski could be 106-79-106 so they will have more or less the same feel for a person that is 165 as it does for a person 175?

do you get me, i know it may be a bit confusing :D? i think this is a good idea though.

what do you think?

4frnt are already doing this with the MSP - the sidecut increases with each different length.

definitely makes sense

4frnt does it with all their skis.

Cost of doing so is rather high. For each different rocker profile, different molds, different pre-bent edges, different templates for bases... for most ski companies, unless you're selling many many skis, its not cost effective.

makes sense. too bad, just wondering why the larger companies arent doing that?
4frnt and high society arent the biggest companies out there.

You do realize that for every ski that is a different size you must have a different mold... I can see for a rockered ski you might have tocreate a way to cut that specific profile for your core because of the difference in rise height, but for the mold itself, each ski, 165, 175 and 185 for example will have its own mold, as well as top sheet. base and edge that need to be cut for it. I really don't see why they don't change the specs on skis, but then again, you couldn't claim that all your EP Pros were 127 under foot...
