I love snowboard movies just because their so much funnier then ski movies, generally have better cinematography, and more creative tricks.

I mean seriously, every ski movie ever follows the same basic "oh i love to ski so much its such a blessing to be able to ski" plot line.

Sad to say, but that skeleton crew video was more entertaining than about 90% of the ski videos/edits i've seen. That vid was amazing and I would love to see skiing move in this direction. So much more fun to watch than the standard hyphy rap song and switch up after switch up that are ski edits these days. Just my opinion.

I enjoyed that more than any ski movie I've see this year.

Great music, if you don't llike it, at least you won't hear it in three other snowboard movies
Great vibes, felt like a day on the mountain with your homies if your homies were super gnarly snowboarders

And all those snowboarders didn't have the same thugged out homogenized style

Look we all know that although this is a "skiing" forum, BUT we also all know there are snowboarders all over this site. Get over it. If any of you guys think that super cool 1991 rivalry between snowboarders and skiers still really exists, you are retarded, or above 35. I think we can all agree that each others sports are cool, and crazy awesome fucking shit happens in both, and since they happen in the same place i think we should appreciate each others sports. I know this website is about skiing, and for the most part it is, but when a snowboard video is posted, and the hate-fest begins, it really just makes you guys look like douche-bags(for those who are hating). If you dont like snowboarders because they snowboard, change your mindset, because if you ski park, you will be with snowboarders. If you dont like snowboarders because you know one who is an asshole, thats different, hate on that one, but not the entire whole. For the newer people to the site, although you will find some long time contributors hating in here, for the most part i feel that a majority of big contributors dont hate snowboarders, because they have figured out that the sports are pretty similar and not half bad. I dont see why we cant get excited over Tom Wallisch and Lucas Magoon at the same time, both are fucking awesome. So shut up, sit down, calm down, and love your fellow man.

P.s. all of those videos were sick

Snowboarding in general seems stale and stagnant to me, and this video hasn't done much to change my impressions.

This is coming from a guy who can remember watching two guys on Snurfers ride the pow at Paradise (Mt. Rainier) in '79, and has watched the evolution of the sport since then. I've been around since the beginning, had friends hitting the slopes with Sorel's and Winterstick Swallowtails back in the 80's, stuck with when it seemed like everyone else under 30 had ditched their skis and wouldn't STFU about how snowboarding was "The Source" for years and years and years through the late 80's and most of the 90's, and who rode for three consecutive years while rehabing both knees from back-to-back season-ending knee injuries.  I enjoy snowboarding, lots of my friends that I've been tight with for longer than most folks on this forum have been alive - and I have no animosity towards boarding at all - but the energy and innovation in snowboarding seems to have started going flat right about the same time that skiing had a rebirth in the late 90's.

IMO at some point the basic limitations of the technology constrain innovation, and the snowboard allows for fewer degrees of freedom and is flat out less versatile than skis. Whether you are traversing mountain ranges or hitting the pipe, skis are just a more versatile technology. Skiers have gone and will continue to go faster, bigger, and develop tricks that are more technical and have fewer limitations than snowboarders.

Nothing against weed either, but there's more to life than stagnating in every respect outside riding while spending the rest of your time hunched over a bong. For whatever reason, the vibe in ski videos just seems way more diverse and positive than the output I see in the snowboarding vids. There's an equally respectable place for a Jon Olsson and a Plake and Dean Coombs (RIP) and a Deschenaux and all combinations of the above in ski videos, mags, and culture - but I just don't get the same vibe from the boarding world. YMMV.

I would argue that snowboards allow for more progression in many areas, especially in the urban environment. Snowboarders innovate and push it so much harder on crazy urban and jib set ups.  There are things that work on skis that don't work on snowboards but there are also a lot of things that work on snowboards but not on skis.  Sometimes 2 active edges are nice to keep you locked in like in the pipe. Sometimes they lock in too much like when you're trying to slide that sweet tree jib all your friends are hitting and faceplant hard.

I don't really get what you're trying to say about the cannabis. Skiiers smoke lots of weed too, our movies may not reflect that part of the culture as much but ski movies seem to be concerned more with the cinematography and lighting than culture and lifestyle shots. Whether you are into that or not is a matter of preference.

Why are you even arguing this here, it's a sick video, who cares if you think skiiers can go bigger in the pipe or stay slightly higher on a backcountry traverse??

Just my opinions about "The Best Snowboarding Video of the Year." and why the format, tricks, and content seemed tired - some of which might be due to the limits imposed by their technical platform.

IMO any given TC episode beats that vid hands, down, and either of the vids I'll link below have a way more interesting story to tell.

it's more raw than videograss, has some of the sickest riding I've ever seen, and it's free.
Skiing needs videos like that.

oh and the best knife show edit is "patch mach" "giants of Big Bear" is sick too.

at least I'm not the only one thinking it, seems like everybody thinks it but nobody does say it, respect I guess, but yeah, shitty electronic, dance hall ... how can you get hype with that shit.

I have a collection of around 30 dvds, so I ain't a ski movie hater, but it's been a while since we had a PERFECT soundtrack movie. Forward was probably THE ONE.
