Im going tommorrow and we decided to build this for sure last night when they would have already been closed, and im sure closed today.

they have lexan which is basically the same thing (if not the same exact thing). It'll cost you an arm and a leg though 3x6 cost like $100

Don't think so.  There is only one place in Denver that sells it.  I called up the park manager for Vail and asked him where they got their HDPE.  Yes I work for Vail, but I would imagine any park guy is going to tell you where they get it.

When we made our box last year we went to Home Depot, and they have a small selection of different plastics n shit.  Lexan is expensive as hell, but there's cheaper versions that you could probably do for 10-20 bucks.  Our main problem was cutting it, as hte Home Depot guy said to use a tool to score it over and over again, then just break it along the crease.  I recommend a jigsaw or circular saw, something with a thin blade that won't shatter the plastic.

i went to a plastics manufacturers warehouse to get my hdpe for my box. 2 1.5x7 1/8" sheets of hdpe cost me like ~100 bucks if i remember correctly. the stuff they have at homedepot etc is pretty crap. you can shatter it pretty easily.

Yea we went to home depot today, they had lexan but it was really thin, they didn't have anything over .22 inches and you want it thicker than that, theres a plastic store near me im going to look at, but for now we're going to use some old Thin hdpe temporarily because we want to do a little preseason stuff

yea lexan and plexiglass are not what you wanna use. HDPE is def what you want, but it is expensive. your best bet is Mcmaster carr as someone up there posted, or someplace like USplastics.com. you can check your phonebook for local plastic distributors, they might have it as well. if thats out of your price range, you can try fermica, that should work pretty well.

Plexi no, lexan yes. Lexan is just a brand name. its a high impact plastic that works very well on boxes

Seriously? I never would have thought about trying to use that stuff, but it kind of makes sense.  He's talking about the prefab plastic wood for decking?  I was thinking about using that to redo a deck, but at least at Home Depot, you had to give them the dimensions of your deck and they would sell you all the individual planks along with directions on where they went.  It didn't sound like you could buy the stuff in length like you do lumber and if you tried to cut it with a normal saw it would probably ruin the saw.  Am I wrong?

Dutchy just headed to Utah for the winter.

The Sheet HDPE would be the most legit, but it is expensive.  I don't know if the thin/film HDPE would take the abuse well enough.

I'd  imagine most factories recyle their scrap but might be worth calling around. Or hitting the local dump. to find some recycled/thrown away garbage cans

after the struggle we went through trying to find the materials for our box we learned something important.


just use pvc.  its cheap, durable, slides well and is generally badass
