Getting the perfect amount of speed for bigger jumps?

Ok i searched and couldnt really find anything so if you find something about this just post the link.

So i cant seem to get the right amount of speed on bigger jumps. I either case it or over clear it.

Any advice?

Either speed check first, or follow someone in who has got the correct speed on lock, and jump right behind them for a few tries.

go to your local pet store, buy a guinea pig, strap to some popsicle sticks and send him down the hill.  he'll figure out the right speed for ya.  Or draw straws with some of your friends, for who has to hit it first, second, etc.  Honestly just carry in a little more speed than you think you should, if you feel like your going to fast as you go up the ramp, then don't pop much, too slow and pop alot.

Unfortunately for your knees and back it just takes practice. Eventually you can just eyeball it and send it. Mostly works.

The "follow someone who has it on lock" method works really well. Ive always done that and Im sure it's saved my ass a bunch of times.

watch ppl- see where they start from, watch for tucking or speed checking, and look at where they land.

ask people what the speed is like

follow close behind a friend who has the speed on lock

Make sure you bring weight and waxedness of your skis into the equation. Although if you can keep up with the guy hitting it before you, you should be good.

find the medium between the two, it takes practice to gauge a jump properly.  If you have that problem with a certain jump you should ask if you can train someone who has been seshing it so you can get that money spot.

try coming into it and jump off the knuckle and see how far you carry. sometimes landings look short, but there pretty big.

ive heard that if the jump is well made if you start breaking (full 90 degree angle break) right at the beginning of the jump and make it all the way up to the lip, your speed is good. not sure if it applies to all jjumps tho.

i dont know about that cuz you can brake lightly or hard so you can kinda control whether you make it to the top or not
