This guy was paralyzed in a car accident. They though he was in a coma for 23 years. Turns out he was fully awake and just unable to communicate.

but really. i would rather have them pull the plug on me than sit in a hospital with no outside contact for 23 years. could you imagine trying to keep up with todays world after being "dead" for that long.

Ok, didn't read the whole thing, but I don't see how you wouldn't go completely insane after all that time.   It's like the stories you hear about prisoners being in solitary confinement for huge amounts of time.  Your brain starts to break down through complete boredom.  yeah I'd rather be dead

feeding tubes, a tube runs straight into the stomach. This would be terrible. Give it 20 years and this will be a thing of the past. Once we master the human brain injuries like this will be non existent. (I hope, fuck religion for slowing down research.)
