Hellbent help !

basicly iv got a pair of 189 bents, im 5"11 180lbs i want them for bc jibbing/pow there about 15 cm above my head and seem huge for jibbing, does ns think i should swap them for a pair of 179 or stick with the 189, the 179 is head hight or abit over, i am a agressive skiier but dont want them to be to slugish, will they spin ok?

please help, +k for all helpfull answers!

mount them at center, skis amazing there.
i have the 189's and they are pretty heavy to throw around, but if you are strong i think you should be able to handle them

You'll get used to the extra weight/size quickly don't worry about it. When you go back to your regular skis you're going to feel like you're on snowblades. Oh and I'd suggest mounting center, they're big enough on you that you can definitely get away with it, and they're so sick everywhere when center mounted.

Go 179.  Lay a 189 and 179 next to each other and you will see they have the exact same amount of running edge on hardpack.  At your height and weight, a 179 will give you just as much float but a little less weight.

i thought id add that i go to the  gym alot and have pretty strong legs and also plan to be putting on around 25-35lbs in the next 6 or so months, i dont know if this would make a difference to what size i would need, its usch a hard call and i just cant decide what to do cos i dont want to have a ski thats to big for me but it will be such a hassle trying to swap them, aghh!

im 5'11 - 6' and right now i weigh 216 but thats cause ive packed on some weight for rugby, but last season i was weighing about 190 while i was riding them

I'm 6 foot 160 pounds and I use 179 bents. I love mine and they seem to be pretty easy to spin with but still have lots of float.

soz if this is a stupid question, but how easily would they spin off cliffs etc.. when you were 190lbs?

I have 189s and I'm about 5'11, 185. Last winter I was about 200 or so (drank more beer as an undergrad). You do need to be pretty strong to rock them right, but you seem like you will be strong enough.

I like heavy skis. I think that being able to push the skis into momentum makes them ski better.

I have not been on the 179s though, but they just seem like they would be too short. I didnt really get mine for jibbing as much as charging, but in powder you are able to pop around on them pretty well, it just takes more muscle.

I ski sierra cement, so the longer the ski, the better it floats in the thickness. also, it has been my experience with bein nimbly bimbly in the pow stuff, the bigger skis make it a little easier because you maintain more float and have more ski that you can push off of the snow to create popping power (think wakeskate/wakeboard ollie kinetics).

I think you will be fine. They will feel huge at first, but after a few runs, when you are used to them, you will think they are the sickest things ever.

Regardless of what ski you get they will be fun. I'm 6' 2", 185lbs, I've skied both 179's and 189's on both hardpack and pow days. If your worried about floating, don't be, 179's float just as much as 189's.  At a center mount, both skis feel and look almost exactly the same except the 179's are a lil bit nimbler and feel lighter.

it wasnt too bad, you just had to get used to the feeling of them spinning. i liked to do butters off little cliffs or rock drops with them, it was super fun. its crazy how well they let you pop up out of the soft snow

i have 179 bents center mounted, super fun. highly reccommend center mount on them. im 5 10' 170 pounds

Im 6'3 193 pounds and ride the 189's, The 179's are actually longer then they appear measuring out to be almost the same length as the 185 EP Pro. If you are a strong agressive skiier i think it may taking a litttle bit of adjusting to get used to but you could def rock them, otherwise i suggest the 179's and know that you will have a blast on them.

If you get them centermounted then you won't have very much trouble at all spinning off of cliffs

i'm 6'1 and i rode centered 179's and they absolutely sucked, hellbents ski super short. i hated the skis in general but definitely go as long as possible with them

as much as i like the sound of the hellbents, the 189s are just abit too heavy for me i think, i like a light jib ski so im guna swap them for a pair of ep pros - perfect length, lighter, softer and i like to support line as a company (as iv got a charging ski the eps are guna be only used for jibbing and deep days)

yeah bents are flappy, heavy, and too soft for how bulky they are

bents really arent soft at all, thats just the tip/tail rocker that is soft the part that you actually ski is pretty damn stiff

mount center...and it depends if your an aggresive skier or not, though there is a ton of rocker on the bents which helps a lot, if your more aggresive youll be fine with the bigger ski...also consider the type of terrain youll be riding, if youll be doing a lot of technical tricks in the backcountry or going into the park more than once in a while i think you should move to the smaller size

underfoot is somewhat solid, you can't call it pretty damn stiff, but yes i agree it's solid. however the tips and tails are so floppy and bouncy that you can't go fast in anything except absolute bottomless pow. in crud they drop you into each trough and shoot you out creating a terrible ride so you have to pick your way around as opposed to just blast through. i'd prefer a ski like the caylor which out performs bents in bottomless pow and also has enough meat to handle variable conditions

idk im one of the few ns'ers who doesn't like hellbents, i found they were only capable of hopping around in deep deep pow and didn't really like to do anything else

hey all thanks for all the input, my ep pros have arrived today and they look so sick, perfect length (5-10 cm above my head) so soft, softer than i thought but guna be so nice for butters n presses, guna spin so much easyer than the bents i think, cant wait  to ski them, i no the mounting point is -2 from true but were does eric p ski his?

I am 6 foot 165 and I have the 179 hellbents, I like them there, I think the extra 10cm would be to to much to really spin that for my height and stregth... Either way you'll love them though.

i went out to my garage and flexed my bents and they are pretty stiff underfoot. i think the ability to blast through crud really depends on the rider though, for me they just tear through everything, but i think a lot of that has to do with my size so for a smaller guy you probably would be bouncing around but at my weight everything was pretty solid. and i feel like they perform amazingly in the deep stuff, however i havent ridden the caylor so i cant really compare
