Blue mountain

So i was on blue mountains website today and i see on the home page there status says "think snow, untill then check out http://bigairbag.com" Could this mean blue is getting one of these airbags??

Rumor has it that Blue did buy a Big Air Bag.

justin you never have anything good to say about anything. you really think we'd have an airbag now and not be able to do inverts. basically dont pike out backflips or shit and i'm pretty sure that there will be no issue at all.

i just don't understand why they're putting all the money into this thing, and now allowing people to try and learn a trick as basic as a backflip in a slightly safer environment. i'm probably wrong here, but wouldnt having the airbag, and giving people a safe place to learn inverts before they take it into the park, actually make everything safer, in which case it should lower their insurance costs, as opposed to increasing them like allowing inverts normally would? i'm all for the thing if they allow people to use it for what it's designed for, but not being able to use it to its full potential is just kinda annoying. not complaining, just saying don't half-ass it, and everyone will be stoked on the thing. everything else that's going on up there looks pretty sick for the most part, now we just need some snow and cold weather.

The people that write the insurance policies have no idea how a terrain park works.  Its the same deal with a snowboard leash.

haha very good point, and i think that's a huge issue. a well planned and constructed 50 foot jump can be a lot safer than a poorly made 20 foot jump, and it seems that that's something a lot of people don't consider.

Heres the low down:

1. I was just at Blue on Saturday. They're not starting to blow snow until it gets into the 30's and stays around there. They want to open the 4th and it may happen. They'd only open the top half of the mt. though, which means only one terrain park- Comearound which is a mid level park.

2. The airbag. I'm pretty sure Blue bought theirs because Boulder got one. Blue is not allowing inverts and don't even try corks on it because Blue Mt. ski patrol thinks corks are inverts. I wouldn't even count on it being there that long. This is basically an invite to everyone who ski'd like once in their life saying "Hey! Come on in and jump off our jump into this awesome airbag!" someone will get hurt and Blue will get rid of it.

And just to rant. Blue's park crew is made up of 99% snowboarders. All they do is ride there snowmobiles around and block off features so they can talk and smoke weed. They don't fix anything ever. All the rails on sidewinder are wobbly and last year the corrogated pipe stall fell over and rolled into the trees and the cannon box fell over.

AND not to mention Blue doesn't put math into their jumps. they just say "Hey that look good?" "looks good to me" "lets go smoke some more." and the jump will be rediculous!

But other than that stuff Blue is a good Mt. it's just they need to get a new park crew.


And if you're ever on sidewinder take a look on the side of the trails. There are at least 10 rails that they never use because snowgrind doesnt let them use them.

how long have you been skiing at blue, and do you honestly think everything that you wrote to be true? i can't remember a year for the last several years when they've opened top to bottom. they always get the main st. chair running first, with main street, easy out, vista, and now come around as a park. also, haven't seen any ski patrollers yanking tickets for corks. my concern for the airbag is primarily because i want to try and learn rodeos on the thing before i wreck myself on a regular jump. and since when does boulder have an airbag?

also, as for park crew, two out of the three kids that have been busting their asses up there getting everything ready preseason are skiers, and they know what they're doing. in the past blue's park crew has been pretty lazy, but there have been a ton of changes up there over the last two years, and 99% of then have been for the better. if you're going to complain about something, give park crew constructive criticism so they understand why you don't like something, and maybe give a suggestions as to how to improve things instead of just complaining.

my college is trying to get a freeski not team but like training/some college events at blue so maybe they will let us go big if they like make specific times or somthing

Ski Liberty is getting one as well. I'm not a fan of air bags.  Granted they are a safer environment then learning off a jump onto snow, BUT once you get an air bag its considered an amusement in the safety/insurance world and has to be checked regularly.

JUST GOT MY JOB AS A SKI INSTRUCTOR AT BLUE! Went up there and talked to some people. First off about how much trouble you get in for inverting. If you invert AND SOMEONE SEES YOU you get your pass clipped. They started blowing snow the other day... but it all melted. They are planning on opening the 11th.

Blue has always been no inverts correct???? Not that I can do em or anything, but that has always been the policy. I agree it seems retarted to get a bag and not allow inverts.

On the upside I was there once last year and it seems that the park crew has really stepped up there game and shit looked pretty good. Not surprising with how close bc is and what they have been doing the past few years.

Even further on the upside........................................1-3 INCHES FORCASTED NORTH AND WEST OF THE CITY SATURDAY AND INTO THE NIGHT.
