Howl's Moving Castle/Spirited Away/Princess Mononoke

Just showed these to some friends of mine. I've loved them forever, absolute classics. They fell in love from the start and were so upset when they ended. No sequels to these, because Miyazaki pretty much wraps them up pretty well. But amazing movies none the less. You'll see the previews and think they're stupid, kiddish, maybe a little on the Anime side, but trust me. I hate manga/anime, can't stand most cartoons, and I absolutely fell in love with these movies and watched them many times over. Some of my absolute favorites.
Just figured i'd rant because there were no threads on them and yes I searchbarred. Take a look at these, they're extremely touching and absolutely must sees for anyone who wants to experience amazing feelings.
I'd start with Spirited Away, it kind of eases you into Miyazaki/Studio Ghiblis style. Then hit Howl's Moving Castle (MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE) and then Top it off with Princess Mononoke. You can find them for free all over the intertubez, but I bought mine on DVD beacause I end up watching them so often.

i totally agree with you, Miyazaki is an amazing writer and director
i love his movies, they're far beyond the simple "anime/manga" category, they're proper "motion pictures" even though drawn

the other thing is that if you've done any sort of philosophy studies, miyazaki does a wonderful job of tying in chinese philosophies and ideals into his films, which for me personally, changed my outlook on life a little bit

All of them are fantastic movies for sure. If you haven't seen Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, I recommend that. Castle in the Sky is also really good.

Ah thats another one similar to spirited away and howl's moving castle. If theres one recurring image in my mind in that movie, it has to be the parade. Its such a total mindfuck, 100%. Its a great mindfuck though.
And castle in the sky is another one by miyazaki and studio Ghibli. I actually don't think they've put out a movie i've ever not liked. And its so good to see other people actually know about these movies and aren't opposed to them. And to the guy saying spirited away is creepy, its weird yes, but its cinematic gold, and the character development and plot are absolutely amazing and so entertaining.

bump. watching spirited away right now. my mom got it for me when i was a little kid and it creeped me out but this time around its an awesome movie. i plan on howl's moving castle and princess mononoke as well

His other stuff outside of these movies are great too, Naussica and the Valley of the Winds kicks so much ass. Miyazaki in general kicks ass.

I just remembered that my older brother brought me to watch spirited away when It came out in theaters when I was 7 years old.... wow, I just realized that I watched it about 10 years ago, being 17 all of a sudden feels WAY too old. Soo few memories left :(

But anyways, Im in the process of watching it again because certain parts of this movie gives me CRAZY nostalgic feeling. I think I liked it a lot when I first saw it because I have this feeling that I know all of the characters.

Awesome movie.

I love Miyazaki's films because they moreso fall into the category of animated cinema than they do manga/anime. Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro are some of my favorite films of all time.

ever since i watched spirited away last year ive been pretty much obsessed with all his stuff just got done watching castle of cagliostro if you havent seen it it is one of his best

I have only seen howl's moving castle and I actually loved it surprisingly. I went into it thinking I would hate but turned away really satisfied with the film would recommend it to anyone!

Watched Princess Mononoke since my last post. Wow. Definitely my favorite film by Miyazaki, and easily one of the best films I've ever seen, period.

i think spirited away is my favorite, though i havent see howl's yet. it is just so amazing the art, music, story, everything. i first saw it when it came out after it won an oscar and i was so young but i just loved it.

anyone know anything about the new anime movie in theaters?

I saw Howel's Moving Castle.  We actually read the book and then saw the movie for the class.

I'm pretty into film and I've heard of all these films being mentioned but I don't know, Howel's Moving Castle didn't really stick out with me.

Probably because I saw it in a class. I guess I need to see it again.

Eventually I'll watch the other ones too

Just saw Pom Poko the other night. I dug it, sore of a different vibe than his other stuff, but was still really good. All subtitled though - no dubbed.

Gonna have to agree. I was a fan of Miyazaki's work prior to watching, but somehow it was my least favorite movie of his. The plot felt sort of flat throughout.

Gonna bump this again.

I just watched Arrietty and Castles in the sky. Both were amazing.

Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli are pure geniuses. i love all of the films they have made so far.
Also they are making a new movie for 2013. im stoked already haha
