Crazy science facts

Only about 10% of cells inside of our bodies are human cells. The other 90% are non-pathogenic bacteria

that just blew my mind, maybe I am going crazy for all this studying but I think this is insane.

Does anyone else have cool facts like this?

Not necessarily.  How does infrared work?  It works because it is giving off the energy and you are just watching the signals.  So you really aren't putting in any energy at all that could affect the system.  It is essentially an unexplained phenomenon at the molecular level.

It's impossible to send data because to do so, you'd have to be observing the particles, and doing so breaks the entanglement phenomenon.

For example, if you had two particles that always spin opposite directions of each other (one going clockwise means the other goes counterclockwise, so to speak) - you could theoretically use them to answer yes or no questions instantaneously over infinite distances, by ascribing a certain rotation (say, clockwise) to yes, and the other rotation to no.  Then your partner on the other end can manipulate his particle at the other end to spin counterclockwise, causing yours to instantly spin clockwise, and he'd have answered your question as "yes".

The problem, as mentioned before, is that as soon as you observe your particle to watch for the rotation, the entanglement is broken and it will begin rotating independently of the other - nothing your partner does to his will change yours.

This isn't really my area of expertise, so I don't know a whole lot about it (nobody does, really, it's a huge problem in modern physics), but like someone else mentioned, it has to do with the Heisenburg Uncertainty principle - essentially that you can't know a particles location and rotation at the same time, or that knowing one changes the other.  You could probably find a book that would tell you much more than that, but again, it's not my area of study.

I was saying that we "create" atoms not really as we physically create it, but as observers we make it exist. Like you said, an electron has no point in space, but once we try to observe it, the probability density crashes in on itself and the electron becomes a point in space. That would be correct, no?

We don't create either, and nuclei themselves are so huge that they don't really fall in to quantum mechanics with the whole observer conundrum.  The only thing we make exist is the electron, and even that isn't make it exist, it is just giving it an orientation in space and time that it didn't previously have.

he is kind of right though there needs to be particles or a disruption in the liquid to start the crystallization of water. they do not increase the freezing point of water, distilled water will freeze at 0 Celsius. You can have distilled water at like -15 that is still a liquid but as soon as you agitate it the crystallization will start and it will freeze before your eyes.

I read an article the other day how scientists have been using extreamly powerful magnets to levitate mice.

We also have lasers mounted on trucks and airplanes which shoot down missiles and airplanes.

If it weren't for stars, we wouldn't really have much else than hydrogen probably. All the elements that ever were and ever will be have been created by stars. We are nothing more than the result of fusion of electrons in stars.

aren't High-Functioning Autistic kids supposed to be absurdly smart? Like I know my mom's friend's son is, and he was able to memorize every Disney movie ever, what year it came out, all the songs in it. It was absurd. Name a year, he'd name every movie produced that year. Name a song, he'd tell you the movie and year. that was all when he was in elementary school too.

Of course, he wasn't socially adept at all. and I guess now that he is (through being with an OT I'd assume) he can't remember random crap like that as well.

Well sir it was actually the gas which colapsed into itself which made that star. All that lovely gas came from the big bang, and that big bang bang came from a tiny insanely dense ball of energy and matter.

Well, where that ball of matter and energy came from is tricky. Some people say it came from a previous universe which collapsed onto itself. I personally side with something like that, that we were just the rebirth of an old universe. Matter is reborn all the time, why not the universe? If that's true, its kind of hard to go back and find out where that last universe came from and so on.

We might never know where matter came from, but who knows, maybe one day we can master using worm holes and travel to any point in time, and maybe even before time to see where it all came from. I hope we find out that all we ever were is a massive experiment, that would be awesome.

Quick question to all the astronomers/physicists out there, if there was a tiny black hole the size of a millimeter on Earth, what would happen? I am assuming if you don't get near it's even horizon nothing bad would happen. You could probably even contain it and carry it around? Or is my concept of black holes all wrong?

i think that any black hole formed by the LHC would be miniscule in size and would evaporate almost instantly. im also pretty sure that you wouldnt be able to put it in a box and carry it around...
