So im 23, i used to be super tech savvy when i was younger and all of a sudden i fell off the end of the earth in terms of my tech knowledge. ill give some background so you can help me. I used to do a lot on the computer. gaming mostly, but download a lot of music and internet, projects, the norm. now, i use the computer purely for the internet, downloading things, and microsoft word from time to time (sure to be more once i start school back up in the winter). Computers also have changed so that back in the day, i used to be able to keep mine clean from viruses and shit pretty easy, even with limewire and whatnot on my comp. Nowadays, i cant keep up i feel. i try to help my girl out and i just cant. she has poor internet browsing habits but still, despite all my efforts her machine is a mess after just 3 months. so this comes to my first big point. i use the family computer, an iMac. im sold, simply because it requires so little maintenance. first problem. i need a laptop. i cant spend 1000 dollars for a MBP (used). i would, no questions asked, but i dont have that money.
i ran across this ad today and my interest was piqued. first of all, is this laptop a giant piece of shit and i just didnt notice? second, would it work for my needs. third, if im way off can you suggest something? i can probably spend about 700, but really i would love to spend 500.
and yes, i know it has no optical drive. barring anything im forgetting, i honestly have not put a CD or DVD into a computer in years, not kidding. and i love the portability aspect
are there any pitfalls to these uber cheap laptops? they seem like such good deals. i just dont want to be pissed in 6 months.
