Hello all, I haven’t made many posts in a while. Posting isn’t something that happens when you have an orange name.
My industry saga started when I was a senior in high school and went to the Poor Boyz Jib Jam. Since then I’ve kept in touch with PBP going to IF3, some tour dates, and the Ski Bowl photo shoot amongst others as well. During the Park city stop for Every Day Is A Saturday, a bet was made in the 7-11 parking lot. I was pissed at Cody (I’m not going into this), who is mutual friends with Schmuck.
Six months earlier, Cody asked me why I didn’t have an orange name, I was friends with pros and guarded many secrets that would make ski gabber buzz for days. It was because didn’t think it was appropriate for me to ask for the orange name. I think Cody said he’d ask or maybe I just asked him to.
So flash foreword to the 7-11 in park city, Cody asked me if there was ever a time when he didn’t do something he promised me or let me down. I brought up the orange name.
At that time the orange name was illusive. It was something I could not obtain and something that only special people had. Considering my credentials I thought I was worthy and more worthy than more than a handful of other orange names. These orange names include those who I don’t think are industry enough of use there names unprofessionally.
After the bet was made, I Pm’d Schmuck to tell him the parameters. I fucked up the wording of the bet and ended up with the orange name and a confused Schmuck after I told him I made a crucial error in the way it worded the bet to him. I don’t even remember what the proper wording of the bet was but I now had an Orange name. The bet involved $500 dollars but the money was irrelevant.
I had an orange name and I was stoked. I felt like part of the elite. My industry yielding credentials now has meaning. My posts all of the sudden had more validity than before. Other people could see by looking at my name that I was a kind of a big deal.
I don’t think I’ve made for than 10 posts in the last month and a half. Every post had to be serious or in the sarcastic but in the right context. My personal belief is that an orange name is to show the professionals of the industry. We are all showmen and love to show off. Orange named posts should are to give profound valid information about the industry or to create jokes that everyone can get behind and enjoy like Alex Martini’s “Wallisch should quit skiing†thread. Having an orange name is kind of bland. No hating on the idiotic posts allowed. The orange name was invented to add legitimacy to many posts. Take Tanner as an example, everyone knows who he is when he creates a thread and that post becomes a gospel. It is good that our sport has such an easy connection between the face of it and everyone that enjoys it.
I don’t think it is that cool that some orange names still roam NSG or rack up 50+ posts a week No one is capable or wants to make 50 posts valid to the industry in a week. Take Dan Brown as an example, when making the industry related posts he turns to his orange name and when he wants to dick around or comment on things that aren’t relevant to his orange name status he turns to his blue name. I think that is brilliant. It is hard to mix business with pleasure on NS because every high profile member of NS has an image that they maintain. High profile names don’t have to be orange. For example, TWA, eheath, and Nomensteven are all blue. These are names that all NS members should know. I don’t always agree with these members, in fact, I usually don’t like eheath or TWA. One of those people would be deservant of an orange name if 95+% of his posts weren’t pure douchebaggery. Because of this he shouldn’t have one.
Now that I don’t have the orange name anymore I feel free, I have already started commenting on how fucking dumb some of the posts are and enter NSG with the intent of whoring up my post count. In all honestly, I wanted to be a blue name again but never would have asked for it just to take NS a little less seriously. NS was boring as an orange name. I felt so disconnected when I couldn’t post. That being said, I do miss the orange name and liked the eliteness of when I had it.
Comments, concerns, questions, bashing, constructed criticism? I want to hear what you guys think.
Ps. Another thing that really didn’t fit into the story, one thing I really hate is when posts are made saying either, “why do you have an orange name†or “get him an orange name.â€
In response to your other post which was deleted. (thank you mr. lake, i presume) The accountability thing works if the user has the account as a as a personal one. For an account with a business name doing that stuff is just not cool.
Yeah, it's pretty upsetting and frustrating that he still holds a personal vendetta for no apparent reason. Yet when I saw him in person it was non-existant, but I guess it's to be expected on the internet.
There are definitely a lot of people I do not like on this site, but I'm not going to make childish remarks with them on an alternate account. The fact that he has called me a "fag", "gay" and a "douchebag" is very unprofessional in my opinion and takes away from the respect and credibility the mods deserve.
Recently I had to get a mod to delete negative feedback he left on my profile, unfortunately they are unable to put back the positive remarks I have had deleted by "someone"...
As far as my post goes, I was really not thinking about the OP, but the post about the Dawn kid. Who cares if he has an orange name? We all know that he isn't credible and "industry affiliated", so why does it matter? I think too many people regard the orange name thing as a popularity contest. Just because one up-and-coming film production 'company' has an orange name doesn't mean every other 'company' should get one. Notice, the word company is used loosely.
I still like the original idea of orange names. Have a question about BC.com? PM 123ski. However, somewhere awhile back a precedent was set to give orange names out like candy on Halloween, and it has just snowballed into the popularity contest it is today.
As discussed before, I think each orange name should have a section in his/her profile stating the company they represent. That way there can be consequences if said orange name spews hate and bullshit in NSG.
It's nothing personal,i'm just saying that you are a high profile member that everyone should know. I just think a lot of your posts sound arrogant. It was also the efight thing between you and alport. I know who alport so I kind of blind eyed his blazer loving threads although many people really hated them. I wouldn't call it a vendetta or anything. I brought you, eheath, and nomensteven up to show that although you guys are all high profile, I don't think eheath, would make a proper orange consider what his posts are about even though all of you guys are capable of making really enlightening posts.
interesting thread for sure. i can imagine the orange name makes things more serious...although its the interweb so its hard to take what almost anyone says serioulsy...needless to say its good too see you back to blue and can post normally again. and damn i wish i saw that post you guys talked about. because this thread seems pointless without it. mfk and you made it sound important. i know id want 2 accounts if i had an orange name
What the hell man? I didn't delete anything. This is my first time seeing this thread/have no clue what was deleted.
Mousseau, did we actually meet at IF3? I met a bunch of the NS guys but
I don't remember specifically being introduced. Also, you didn't get
some other mod to delete what I had initially written in your feedback,
I deleted it myself because I realized it was immature (something to the extent of "major douche"). I said what I did in their because of how you treated me when you were
an admin and because I never got more NS store order properly filled. Also...I never called you "fag" or "gay" to my
knowledge?
To clear things up, I am not the alter-account of the aforementioned photographer out of Burlington, with the same name. His only username is KapitolPhotography, so hopefully none of the stupid shit I've said in the past has been reflected upon him.
I never created an alias to talk shit about Jason though. I said everything using my name in his feedback. T_Rob you need to relax and quit assuming you know everything.
You really made a thread about orange names? And how you think they should post? Fuck dude, its just a color of a fucking name let people post what they want. Honestly, an orange name is irrelevant to me, it really does nothing, and gives some dudes like you big egos about your internet persona. There are much worthier posters on NS than most orange names and it is SO FUCKING STUPID how stoked noobs are on orange names. An orange name is a stupid excuse for someone to go oh look im "pro" im cool as fuck. The original idea of an orange name was cool, but then they started giving it to every "pro" and every company representatives around and its now completely fucked. My 2cents.
I am surprised how bent out of shape everyone got over this one colour change so i thought I would clear things up.
While he may not have an established company yet, he is making legitimate attempts to get this thing going, and made the effort to get recognized here on NS to get things off the ground. Not only did he submit a 15page powerpoint "company" profile to us, he has also stepped up and been in touch with our sales guy trying to work out an advertising package. For the time being we have rewarded this effort, which is more then what most people do, with the apparently oh so controversial orange name. If in a few months nothing has come of this, or if he abuses the name then we can revoke it at any time.
i don't really feel like the term orange name is broad enough for people to get confused. if you're insignificant i think the answer is evident, but otherwise if you play a major role in producing any aspect of this website or other companies affiliated/ associated, aka business partners, or ski industry 'people', and whatnot, then you know, there's you're answer again. if you have the potential as a professional to work for another major/influential company, it's important to be recognized, and i don't know, i kind of "pararead" this thread, but it kind of sounds like maybe you did merit the color. otherwise, i think some people commonly neglect their responsibilities as public or media figures, and if you want to be a dick, be a dick, but don't do it under a professional credential. on another note, if people know who you are, regardless of the color of your name, if you spend the better part of your internets complain and bitching and criticizing, it will still damage your reputation. people know who most people are, word travels damn fast, and if you want to stay afloat in business, it's in your interests not to come off as fake, flakey, or as an arrogant fuck. never burn your bridges, and if you have to sever ties, watch your choice of words, because people can make you disappear if they really need to. major industries don't have time for nuisances.
who cares dawn has an orange name? i dont respect his posts any more...
OP, i think you need to stop worrying about name color so much, even the mods goof off/say dumb shit. If they didnt know how to relax and have a sense of humor this site would fucking suck.
