Ok so i just got  back from this party an im kinda drunk so im my grammar is bad im sorry an im not tryin to sound cool by sayin im drunk a shit but anyway, the whole time at this party i kept thinkin bout wow i wonder if im gonna go to hell for drinkin an smokin. Afer that i startd to think about what if there really was no heavan or hell. You would livee yor life die an then thats it. forever an ever. just thinkin boutt it scares the shit out of me. What are youur guys thoughts on this

Its amazing the level of ignorancy that goes on in here. Truth be told, when people here the Word of God, it either softens them or absolutely hardens them. I dont know exactly what to address in here because there are sooo many things that have been stated in either complete ignorancy, naivety, or illogically about Christianity and religious topics.

To the thread creator, first off I wanna say that the Bible does not straight up condemn EITHER drinking or smoking weed. See, in the Bible, there are two things: rules and principles. Rules are such things like, "dont eat meat on the 5th of November and you cant shave your head." But those type of rules are only applicable for the time period they were written. It would be absurd to apply some of those in todays culture. That is when you search the Bible out for principles. While the bible wont say , Thou shalt not smoke ganja, it will say that you should treat your body as a temple of the holy spirit (i know i know you could argue weed isnt bad for you i really dont know to be honest), but it also says to obey your authorities, whether that be the law or your parents.

it really saddens me to think of people who think they will die and nothing will happen, therefore adopting smoke weed and get high cuz lifes a bitch and we dont give a fuck approach to life.

One thing that has always perplexed me about atheists and those who reject God for so called logical reasons. If they like to "play it safe and rely on logic", then wouldnt they logically wanna play it safe by trying to get into heaven? I mean, its a win win situation then, cuz going to heaven is better then nothing.

I guess I have a lot of respect for the people whose philosophy is to make the most out of life and hep others carry out that also. They are super optimistic and make the most out of it, and that is what they live for, and that is their purpose. And once they die, they hope they had a good life, and that is it. There is no more. I would much rather live in insanely awesome life, die and go live another life in eternity. Just my thoughts.

Critique me if you want, but I am confident of where I am going, and I pray you guys find the same. Word

you seem confident for your lack of knowledge of the scriptures, however it is the first remotely intelligent post that i have seen. the bible does condemn drinking "wine is a mocker, strong drink is a brawler". and before someone drops the "jesus drank wine" or "communion blah blah blah". the wine jesus drank and turned water into was unfermented grape juice. for you 15 year olds that means non alcoholic. point is i have read the bible cover to cover 3 times and i refuse to get into this debate on a website full of immature kids who do nothing but bitch and moan about how their mommies made them do the dishes and try to look cool talkin about weed.

Sure, and I never said that. My parents drink wine and beer and stuff and I smoke cigars and stuff, but its all in moderation. It is the principle of the matter.

And yes, I get fed up with blazed up 15 year olds throwin out unthoughtful and illogical arguments, especially making fun of Jesus because it definately can be taken the wrong way if not translated correctly.

I'm not an Atheist by any means, and heaven sounds swell and all, but the concept of heaven itself is a complete contradiction. A utopia can't exist if the people I love aren't there with me. Not only that, but one cannot remain conscious for more than the human life span without literally going insane. So even if I did go to heaven, I'd either be depressed because I'd be alone (thus not making it Heaven), or I would simply go insane from "existing" for such a long period of time.

1. Who ever said it was a utopia? it is the heavenly realm of God, and the streets are made of gold and stuff, but a utopia (defined) is An ideally perfect place, especially in its social, political, and moral aspects. There is no politics, social aspects, or moral aspects really because everyone is perfect, and those three things need imperfection to exist.

2. I sure know that all my good buds will be with me because I surround with kids who are all just as strong in their faith as I am. we will meet up in heaven

3. The concept of eternity is soooo hard to grasp, and my mind explodes everytime i think about it, But that is because God is soooo incomprehendible and this is just one more scenario proving our finity and autonomy.

4. If you went to heaven it would be because you truely loved God, therefore you wouldnt be alone because you are rejoicing before his throneroom with all your other homies.

5. you dont exist in heaven. it is completely timeless. it is nothing like this world. But if that doesnt convince you, I would rather "exist for a long period of time" on a pretty cool heavenly mountain top then burn in the solitude of hell

If you seriously do this, you will find that many of them are self referentially absurd.

Naturalism: the belief that everything is matter and chemicals, and no feelings. Then why are you taking the time to convince me of this if we cant feel emotion

Empiricism: belief that we cant know anything unless it can be verified by one of the 5 senses. then how can that very statement be valid? it must be presupposed

Atheism: the belief that there is no God. How can you say this without ultimately being prideful. By saying there is no God, you are elevating yourself to utmost importance, therefore making yourself a God.

The list is endless dude

Its not that these religions arent appealing, its that if you trace them all to their logical endpoint, they are absurd.

check this story out, there's been a thread about it in the thinker's cult: a guy hypothetically gets his brain detached from his body. However, doctors plug a bucnh of receptors in his cranium and transmitters on his brain. The guy, when he wakes up,  feels like he is still in his body, even though his brain is in a jar somewhere. When he sees his brain in the jar he knows that he's "really" in that jar, because that's where he is thinking, but he still feels 100% like normal, like he's in his body. Here's where I started to think myself:  let's say he walks into a fire and burns himself alive, completely destroying his body. He will still be conscious because his brain is in that jar. It's just that now, he really truly realizes that in reality he has always been in that jar, all along. Following this logic, what tells me that if you destroy that guys brain, he will not realize that he really was actually somewhere else, at another level ? In this guy's situation, he was under the illusion that he was in his body. When his body was gone, he realized that he really was that brain in that jar. What if that is also another illusion and when you destory that brain he realizes he really was something else, somewhere else. Hypothesis on the "soul" im guessing ...
