Switch lip side

is a sw lip side when your tails go over the rail first, like a regular lip slide, or is it when your tips go over the rail first?

hard way is tails over first so you have to look over the shoulder to the out side of the rail.

A normal lipslide is tails over, spinning away from the rail. A lip 270 on is tails over spinning away from the rail. So why should switch lip be tips over, spinning into the rail?

I feel like I've heard it explained that when you're going switch, your "tips" are basically your "tails," hence switch lip is tips over - but that seems like some pretty convoluted reasoning to me.

Until proven wrong I maintain that switch lip is tails over.

In snowboard terms, a lipslide is when the back end of your board (aka, your tail) goes over the rail, and a normal slide is when the front end goes over the rail. Hardway 270 is when you spin into a rail with the back end going over first.

I don't see why this should be different on skis.
A lipslide going forward would take the back end of your skis (your tails) over the rail.
A switch lipslide would take the back end of your skis (your NOSES) over the rail.

Yeah, switch lip is definitely noses over, it just feels like a lipslide and looks like a lipslide. Switch tails over is Ian Compton.

I guess that's the way it is then.

In other news, I'm going to start calling nose grabs in switch spins tail grabs, and tail grabs nose grabs. ;)

you said it yourself - a lipslide is spinning away from the rail ie. tails over when going in normally.

so. . . if you spin away from the rail when going in switch, then your tips go over first, hence why switch lipslide is tips over first

lip slides are whatever part of your skis are uphill that have to clear the rail. So if you are going forward, it would be tails over first, if you are going backwards it would be tips over first.

how about we define it like this. a lipslide is when you come onto a rail spinning to the left on the left side, and spinning to the right on the right side.
