vacuum pressing combined with an autoclave is the best way to make a composite. not sure if anyone actually makes skis like that though. most side wall skis are made with pneumatic presses i think, and most cap construction and hybrid construction skis are made using vacuum press. the advantages of a vacuum press are you dont have to go through all the calculations to build a press frame, and the fact that you dont have to build a press frame(unless you can weld they are very difficult to build). however the down side is that you can only achieve a little less than atmospheric pressure with a vacuum press (~14psi) where as you can achieve nearly any pressure with a correctly designed press. i hear the magic number is like 50 psi.
