okay im looking to add a powder/tree ski to my east coast quiver. i have looked around and i think i have narrowed it down to these 3. I am 5' 11" 165 agressive skier. I want this ski to be good in tight trees as well as cut pow and any other varible snow we see here in the east. The one i like the most is the billy goat just because i hear how legit on3p is. and also im really interested in rocker but im not quite sure if i really need it. and im a little skeptical on the funky JJ dementions. and i lik ethe idea of early taper in the Sir Francis Bacon. Please let me hear your thoughts on these skis. Other options will always be considered
So first off, if you are looking for a powder ski, you want rocker. period. The jj performs well everywhere! Even in hard moguls it does way better than you would think. I ski mine if there is 3in or more of new. I don't really know much on the billy goat but I do know ON3P is super legit! I am sure they are great skis. They seem pretty similar to the jj. The sfb would be good but I think that the jj or Billy goat would be the best bet. (I love my jj's btw.)
The JJs are an awesome ski. They don't hook at all in pow, and because they have both normal camber underfoot and rocker, they are an awesome all mountain ski (not that they cant shred super deep pow also, thats what theyre best at in my opinion.). They are also super light, and they spin very easily. Dont let the funky demensions throw you, they barely take any time to get used to, and once you do, you will love it. They also turn very quickly and feel very stable, but nimble at the same time. They sound like a very good ski for you. You have probably looked at the Line Elizebeth, but if not, you really should. They turn super quickly, which is really good in the trees, and also float quite well, I love mine. Hope this helped.
Billy Goat- more directional JJ, slashier, overall more forward oriented, similar to the S7 if you will
JJ- jibbier feel but can still slay anything, probably doesn't float quite as well as the billy goat
SFB- softer and gets tossed around more than the other 2 but still super versatile and turny, won't be as good in the trees or deep pow as either of the others but it will have a more traditional feel if you like that. i would generally say the sfb is too short though, it skis incredibly short and it's only a 182
well the billy goat has similar dimensions as the jj, it has a pretty heavily tapered tip and tail but all that's gonna do is help you in the trees and pow
the billy goat is said to be a phenominal tree ski as well as being able to dominate chopped snow
it depends if you want a jibbier or directional feel, but i'd rule out the SFB right off the bat, rocker and taper are so much more fun
it's kinda a toss up, they'll both float incredibly well but the jj's will just feel jibbier
jj's were ridiculous in pow, we had 6 inches in chile on top of crusty hard shit and the jj's float so well that if you go fast enough you never hit the shitty snow underneath, they just bring you right to the surface and you can rip
i haven't skied billy goats but when i get mine i'm gonna do a direct comparison review thread to help people out
